February 4, 2007, 11PM: Played 9 hours, Made $1,065.00 at River Rock
$3/6 Texas Hold'em

Played very solidly today, controlled, patient and selective aggression.  Had very little leaks in games and didnt lose more than 150-200 on any hands.

Key hand played very well:

In late position, limped with pocket 66.  7 players in pot with pot around 40 ish.  Flop comes (2S,6S,8). Early position bets out 30, get 3 callers ... I raise to 130.  Intital raiser, Min raises to 260 (650 left). 1 guy puts in his remaining 185.  All else folds to me.  I think to myself, initial raiser has trip 8s!! OOther guy buying for Nut flush draw.  Contemplated for good couple minutes ... how can I leave myself with outs ... since there will be a side pot.  Also, is there value pushing all in??? NO!!! only caller will be a guaranteed Top Set! So, not likely he has Trip 2s as Bottom set most likely pushes over top or smooth call rather Min Raise....

So, I smooth call it.  Turn comes a Js. Now 3 spades out there.  Guy raise 200, and I think for few secs raised all in as he has about 450 left.  Playing it out as (I) was going for the Nut flush draw by thinking out long and methodically on flop saved me ... He folded face up conceding Flush is good, or Trip Jacks ... something weird like that.

Ended with all in guy had the A,9 Nut flush and I was able to play it out that I managed to actually win $ from the side pot pushing out Trip 8s vs my Trip 6s!

Lucky but at same time, well planned and thought out.  Call on the flop reraise was key.  No value in reraising.

February 4, 2007, 11PM: Played 2 hours, Lost $500.00 at River Rock
$3/6 Texas Hold'em

(1)
Got unlucky with QQ, vs 9,10,4 flop vs 2 pair.  Raised 30 preflop got 2 callers, got checked to me.  I raised 50, got check raised to 150.  Should have folded, but ... called and turn came 3, guy put me in for 200.  NO value call on reraised there ....

(2)
limped with (7,8) 6 player pot.  Flop comes: K,7,8 I check, button raises to 30.  I call, next card, 2.  I check, he raises to 50.  I call.  Next Card, 3.  I check he raises to 75, I reraised to 225.  He thinks for a while, calls with his K,2 for better 2 pair! Didnt put him on that! Be Careful on limp pots .... conventional logical reasonings on hands dont fall in play.  Also, play bigger hands more aggressive especially vulnerable ones like bottom 2 pair.

Note: Felt tire in the morning that day ... should have played 1-2 instead and went with gut.  Also would have been less pressure and more fun when in this situation.

February 4, 2007, 8PM: Played 4 hours, 30 minutes, Made $900.00 at UB
$100 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (5th out of 110 Players)

Was Chip leader for about an hour mid way in Tourney ... played well did some nice lay downs, but should have slowed down towards the end.  Ie, Final Table play.  Went out with A,5(s) small blind vs big blind.  With 35,000 in play and 600-1200 blinds with 75 ante.  I raised to 5000.  Opponent raised me to 12000, and I pushed in for rest.  What?? Dont mind the raise to attempt steal but easy fold if came over top off.  Especailly against a noted tight player.  I had noted in mind that this guy was tight and played only strong hands .... no moves made by this guy here.  He had QQ ... although flop came A.  He hit Q on River.  Not result orientated poker, but was bad call on my part.  Ended up getting knocked out on 5th.

Lesson: A,5 (s) is just A,5 no matter what stage of the tournament.  At this point play Value hands only ...! As in Hands that can withstand a reraise and you are willing to play ALL the WAY !!!

All in all, OK performance as have to do some fine tuning to your game.

Also, perhaps taking a little risk with big hands, AA and KK preflop that I had reraised with to not get sucked out on .... maybe smooth call opp raise to hope you hit enough to pay you off.  Change up a bit ... sometimes raise, but also sometimes smooth call to try trap.

February 3, 2007, 7PM: Played 2 hours, Made $600.00 at UB
$2/4 Texas Hold'em

Played aggressive and got lucky twice.  Players played me off with a flopped straight 5,8 when flopped came: 4,6,7.  Opponent had Trip Sixes lost his stack to me!

Also won with A,J on J,8,4 flop and turn came another J.  Not sure what the other guy had, but basically got really luck guys paid me off... Today chalked a win but waas a lucky one.  No Spectacular play here.

January 28, 2007, 7PM: Played 6 hours, Lost $200.00 at River Rock
$1/2 Texas Hold'em

Got stack built up to 700 at one point, should have left .... especially on a Sunday with time constraint.  Got AA cracked.  Raised to 15 in mid postion, get 2 callers, early position and button.  Flop comes K,9,2.  I bet out 30, button calls.  Turn comes 7, I bet 100, Button reraises to 260.  Should have folded here as this shows signs of Trips .... but stupid call and kid shows 9,7 ???!!! What? Anyways, his 2 pair held up and dropped little over 300 on that hand.  Bad ...! Gotta watch for guys who call mediocre hand to try break a big stack.

Also, would have left myself an out betting about 70 instead on turn.  That way, his reraise leaves me a door to exit.  This also cloak my Aces not letting him know that I have a tough hand to let go off.  (He knew that)
Perhaps bigger raise preflop, say to 20 and biiger flop raise of: 60.  This way no valu in him putting 20% of his stack with mediocre holding.

Also, gambled with 8,5 spades on flush draw on gut shot straight .... dropped about 300 that hand to waste my stack!

Lesson: Lacked discipline this session and also patience.  Each move I did had no good logic to it nor value.

Learn: Discipline, control play.  Each action must have value, think through what makes the most sense and leave outs for yourself in case of unexpected holdings like opp's 9,7 vs AA.

January 21, 2007, 2PM: Played 7 hours, Made $610.00 at River Rock
$1/2 Texas Hold'em

Pulled 600 within 5 hours or so ... got stack up to about 540 or so after some grinding but, basically caught a crazy rush last hr or so hitting trips, making a house, pocket QQ etc to build stack to 1200.  All in all, fast play and got really lucky today.

Dont take this as good play ... far from it. Today was a gift and very fortunate to have left up!!! Be Thankful.

Lesson: Humbleness and Honesty is Key!

January 20, 2007, 12PM: Played 5 hours, Made $360.00 at Edgewater
$2/4 Texas Hold'em

Played well today, nothing crazy and played strong hands when felt was ahead aggressively.  Also, nothing fancy ....

Controlled and disciplined play today ... picked right spots and didnt gamble much with draws.  Key!!! not wasting $ on bad odds on draws.  Has to be selective ... right priced, sure to get paid off and correct odds!

Lesson: Tight is right, and patient.  No Slow playing necessary ... straight forward game is OK

January 19, 2007, 5PM: Played 2 hours, Lost $400.00 at Boulevard
$1/2 Texas Hold'em

One of the worst sessions of poker, as I played after work ..... was tired and not focussed, should not have gone in first place!

Played very wildly and aggressively gambling lots.

on the 2nd 200 pulled, played one hand as such.  Got QQ on Straddle.  5 players limped in the pot, so I raised it up to $25 ... small as I was greedy and wanted to gamble.

Flop comes: J, 8, 4 (2 spades) I've got 215 left.  checks to me .. I bet out 75, get 2 callers.  Next card comes 3.  Goes check and I push in for remaining 135.  I get both callers, I guy chasing Nut flush draw and next guy with K,J.

Spade comes on River and I lost the hand.  Bad luck?? No ... that was entirely my fault with decision to gamble.  Steps I could have prevented and will change next time this situation occur:

(1) With 5 players in a limped straddled pot, I should have raised it to $35.

(2) With 2 callers in the flop with my Overpair.  I should have next Jammed $100 to end hand there.

(3) If they followed to turn, definitely Jammed remainder $150 or so .... or rest of chips!

Lesson: Do not let greed affect RIGHT decision making in poker table .... regardless of how much you are down, you DO NOT need to gamble to try break even.  It has no logic and sense to it.  Play right each hand and luck will even out in the long run.

Have faith that you are a better player than majority and playing right will weight things in your favour.

Also: Dont play when tired or not in the mood.
