September 23, 2007, 4PM: Played 1 hour, 42 minutes, Lost $55.00 at Napa Valley Casino
$55 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (11th out of 40 Players)

Don't like the structure of this tournament.  Turns into a crap shoot by the 3rd/4th limit, after only 30-45 minutes of play.  Even if you have doubled or tripled up by then the blinds still eat your stack up (200/400) start with 1k in chips.

Another note, the dealers were driing me crazy.  Most of them were changing the chips to and from the rack to color up the pot.  This is fine, but they were slowing down the action AND making mistakes while doing so.  Then, once they are confused, as the pot is incorrect, I try to point out their mistake and they get hussy with me.  So, I kept my mouth shut unless it was a pot I was involved with.

Usually this casino is wonderful, just a bad day I guess.

Oh, my tournamnt play.. I got top set Aa vs QQ set and T8s, flop of AQ2, T8 got there, lucky I did not go broke.

Blinded off, got impatient and frustrated so went all in UTG with A9s for 1400 when blinds were 200/400 and ran into TT.  Would rather double then bleed.

September 22, 2007, 2AM: Played 3 hours, 12 minutes, Lost $187.00 at Napa Valley Casino
$3 No-Limit Texas Hold'em

NLH Game was great..  I had a lot of fun playing tonight.  I felt like I was really into my game and was on.

The hand of the night was my 23s.  I'm on the button with it and DeDobber's father, Bob (the guy who taught us casino poker at age 17), who has been getting just junk and not played a hand the whole session comes in for $20 in early position.  I of course call and let him no I'm trying to help double him up.  The BB and staddler also call.  We see the flop 4 ways.

Flop comes down A2J, two of my suit.. check to Bob who goes all in for about $30.  I insta call, next player mucks then the straddler check raises another $100.  The pot has about $270 in it, I have to call $100 and have 9 outs to the flush plus what I think is a 2 or 3 so 14 total outs.  I almost think I am a favorite here if he doesn't have two pair.  Since I have about $400 left I don't want to risk my stack drawing plus these donks love to raise with flush draws, so I call.

The turn card is a T, making the board, AJT2.  If he makes a bet of $200 or more I should lay down my hand since I'm not getting sufficent odds.  To my suprise he checks.  I check behind as well.

River brings Q of my suit.  But now any K makes a straight.  He checks again and I bet $100 hoping to get him to bite on the small bet.. he mucks showing AJ, top two on the flop.  The kicker though is Bob shows AA for top set! :)

I did make two major mistakes tonight that prevented me from winning.  Both were with large pocket pairs.  KK and QQ.

The first KK, I raise pre early from $6 (straddle, there was a ton of it) to $30.  I get one caller, a maniac loose pre flop player.  Most the time when he misses he mucks.  So when the board comes down 237 two clubs I fire out $70.  He calls quickly.  The turn card is the 7 of clubs.  I doubt he has a 7, I put him on a flush draw or a straight draw.  I only have about $170 left and the pot is $220.  If I check he will bluff or value bet or get a free card.  I decide that if I bet out small, like $80, he will still draw or value bet.  So I move all in like a donk, he calls with 33, flopping a set.  I *should* have realized this player had a monster when he called the flop, especially when the flush was made on the turn, the only legit straight draw would have been 45, maybe A4 or A5, I should have check mucked there.

The second hand was QQ, again against the same player, we both were in late position, him on my right.  We have two limpers and he makes it $35 to go.  Since he is so umpredictable pre and will not lay down once he raises pre, unless I make a huge re-raise, I decide to call.  We get one other caller and see the flop 3 way.
The flop comes down 269. Under the gun checks, he leads out $80, I'm pretty sure I have him trapped and put him on a wired pair, like TT or JJ, possibly KK or AA, but I'm really leaning towards TT or JJ.  The other player that called pre will not call a large bet on the flop like this unless he has a straight draw, overpair or set.  So I decide the best play is to just call, see where the UTG player is and scare the maniac into thinking I am trapping him.  I don't think about the raising option well enough, like I should have.
UTG also calls $80 and we see a Ten roll off on the turn, now UTG leads out $250, maniac mucks JJ and I muck QQ, UTG shows TT.

I would like some help here with this hand.  I feel like I played like a pussy.  I know I did.  I will admit it, I was scared :)

In retrospect I should have raised on the flop, doubles his bet of $80 at least.  Then I would have known immediately if the UTG player had a real hand or not, he can't call on a draw, plus the bettor, even with AA, would be very afraid of me flopping a set and trapping him.  With his history and my read I should have gone with my gut as him having JJ or TT.  Which he had, JJ.

IT was fun though, and it gives me the itch to play in this game more often.

September 16, 2007, 8PM: Played 1 hour, 24 minutes, Lost $55.00 at Napa Valley Casino
$55 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (11th out of 34 Players)

Couldn't get anything going..

We started with 1k in chips, in the 1st 10 minutes the player on my left and right each had over 3k in chips and were unpredictable maniacs.  Calling all in players with 86s and such..

I held my own but the blinds eat me up until I was forced to make stands.

September 16, 2007, 7PM: Played 48 minutes, Lost $20.00 at Napa Valley Casino
$3/6 Texas Hold'em

Playing the 3/6 Holdem until the tourney started, was up $50ish then dumped it back to some dumb ass the last two hands.  He kept ramming his two unders and a gutshot that got there, then he rammed 79 high when board was AQ8, made 9 on turn then 9 on river.  LOL, gotta love low limit.

September 12, 2007, 8PM: Played 36 minutes, Lost $94.00 at Lucky Chances
$6/12 Texas Hold'em

Game is not the same.  Not as much dead money in it like it used to be.

Not in the right mindset to play.  Too much other stuff on my mind.

September 12, 2007, 7PM: Played 1 hour, 6 minutes, Lost $100.00 at Lucky Chances
$5 No-Limit Texas Hold'em

Blinds are 3/5 with $2 on the button.

Game is strange as the bring in is $10.

Lucky Chances has changed, NL has taken over.

There used to be a great 20-40 game, usually 2 games at least.  Now there is not one.

Same with the 6/12 and 9/18 limits, not one 9/18 game and only 2 6/12s in which one broke at 7pm!

I find the NL games tougher to beat as the rake and blinds eat up all the money.  The only dead money is pre-flop as everyone is ulta-tight post flop.

I got out of the game, why risk >$500 to win a couple hundres at best?

September 6, 2007, 10PM: Played 5 hours, 18 minutes, Lost $106.00 at Canterbury Park
$8/16 Texas Hold'em

Tough session, couldn't hold hands.  Seemed like everyone took turns going on rushes.

Should be able to beat this (any) game on a consistent basis.

Overall on the day made $24 yeah!

Still, after playing so much I felt like I wasted time.  I enjoyed and enjoy the game but it is not as important to me like it used to be, especially at limits that dont mean so much.

September 6, 2007, 9PM: Played 2 hours, 6 minutes, Made $201.00 at Canterbury Park
$6/12 Texas Hold'em

Grinding out, playing like a maniac, straddling, getting the table on tilt.  Then I backed off and played "normal".

Seat came open for 8-16, idea was to work my way up limits.
