August 24, 2009, 7PM: Played 45 minutes, Lost $17.00 at Lilac Lanes
$17 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (17th out of 31 Players)

Sometimes in a twenty dollar tournament, it can be hard to pick up a hand.  This was one of those occasions...

August 22, 2009, 7PM: Played 1 hour, 45 minutes, Made $23.00 at Lilac Lanes
$17 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (3rd out of 18 Players)

Got talked into playing by Alan after work.  Thought I played fairly solid throughout, made one loose on the turn of one hand, but overall I liked my play.  Got all my chips in with A/5c on a board of Jc/3c/2s against 3/8o and couldn't catch up.

$22 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (15th out of 27 Players)

Got my chips in bad a couple times...then I was gone.

$22 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (7th out of 23 Players)

Was doing alright, did what I had to do, playing smart, I thought, at least...overplayed top pair on my final hand.  Everyone checked the flop and I shoved first to act on the turn with J/9o on a board of 9/8/6/3, got called by 10/7.  Go figure.

August 10, 2009, 10AM: Played 30 minutes, Lost $22.00 at Lilac Lanes
$22 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (22nd out of 25 Players)

Sort of predetermined to go out on this one.  Picked up wired aces one before the button.  Had three limpers for 100, and I raise to 400, get three callers.  Flop comes x/x/K.  Checks to me, I bet 500, get one caller by a weak player.  I love this flop, no flush or straight draws, so I'm putting him on A/K or K/Q.  Turn comes Q.  Not exactly thrilled with this card.  He checks.  I bet 1100, he calls.  When he just calls, my read for him is A/K, so I still feel alright.  River comes another Q.  He leads out betting all-in.  At this point I have about 3/4th's of my chips invested, so I call.  He shows K/Q.

I know the only way I win this hand is massively overbetting preflop, which is something I have a hard time doing.  Even if I shove after the flop, he would have called, I'm sure of that.  Could I have checked the turn, then folded on the river.  Maybe.  But then I'm lost on where I'm at in the hand, and it's doubtful that I get away from it.

August 7, 2009, 10AM: Played 2 hours, 54 minutes, Made $155.00 at Lilac Lanes
$22 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (1st out of 30 Players)

Three way chop.

Got the monkey off my back.  Started off badly.  With the blinds at 50/100 I make it 300 with A/Q two UTG.  Danny, a VERY aggressive player, pushes all-in for 1550.  I had already decided that if he pushed, I was going to call.  He did, I called and he showed me wired queens.  Yuck.  His hand held up and I was down to 975.

So begins the long climb back.  Won a race with pocket nines against two overs, then limped in with A/Jd and got it in on the flop after the board showed an ace.  Doubled up again with the bigger ace than what called me (A/5).

Back in the hunt, I picked my spots carefully.  Did go all-in over the top of painter Rob with wired tens, taking out his fives and nearly elimanating him.  That was big.

My reads were dead on today, besides the A/Q hand early, and not panicing paid off in the end.  Feels good.

Spokane lost a long time poker player and all around good guy last week when Bert Olson passed away.  I knew Bert my whole life and always enjoyed seeing him and his smile at Lilac Lanes.  He'll be missed.

$17 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (22nd out of 27 Players)

Yeah, fucked off another one...had already folded wired 8's once to J.T., an older, respectable player, after his raise preflop.  I got them a few minutes later and just pushed with them, he called and showed me pocket jacks.  My mistake was lack of patience and not even thinking about what he could have.  Oh well...
