December 29, 2005, 4PM: Played 2 hours, 30 minutes, Lost $27.00 at Party Poker
$1/2 Texas Hold'em

roller coaster.  had it down to 1.97 then ran it up to 60 before pissing it away.  went super aggressive for a while and it worked well.  I like the intelligent aggressive approach, but just can't bring myself to play that way when I need to. I am way to passive, especially after taking a couple of beats.  If I am to play this game, I need to change the way I look at it.  To much recreational thinking, if I treat it like a competition I may have more of a chance.
I am going to take a break for a while and ponder the things I have learned over the last week.  I will either come back a much stronger player, or not come back at all.  Right now, both are equally probable.

December 29, 2005, 3PM: Played 2 minutes, Lost $33.00 at Party Poker
$30 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (99th out of 99 Players)

I must say that this is a first for me.  Second hand of the tourney I have KK on the button.  Gets raised to 55 in early middle position with 1 caller. I reraise to 250 (1/4 or our chips) get called by the initial raiser. Flop 986r he goes all in and I call pocket 10 vs my KK. 10 on the turn and I am done.
I think this is it for me, at least for a while.  I have tried to be patient and play well, but I can't handle the beats anymore.

December 27, 2005, 12PM: Played 1 hour, 30 minutes, Lost $55.75 at Party Poker
$1/2 Texas Hold'em

Mostly got unlucky.  Things I did wrong that cost me $ this session:
1. betting middle strength hand in early position
2. not believing they could play 73d on the button for a raise.  i.e. lay down top 2 when they make diamonds on the turn
3. playing too many starting hands

Good things
1. played more aggressively
2. starting to read opponents online

Need to slow down.  Next time I will institute a count to 7 policy before taking any action.

December 27, 2005, 11AM: Played 1 hour, 20 minutes, Made $43.75 at Party Poker
$1/2 Texas Hold'em

Played tight aggressive.  Trying to discover leaks, one is that I chase, both money and cards.  And it doesn't matter if I am running well or not.  If I am up I will cahse because I have "extra" chips, if I am down I will chase to get even.  If I stick to playing good cards and letting them go when I am behind I will be fine.
Example: I have AQo in late middle position and raise, get reraised by the button and the big blind calls. Flop 10 XX, bb checks, I bet button calls.  I put him on AK.  At this point I know I shouldn't put any more in the pot without a Q on the turn, but a K comes so I CALL.
This is the super donk call that I need to stop.  Sure I have a gut shot draw, but 4 outs!!! Almost as bad as my other moron play; calling too far with a wired under pair.  THEY DON'T PLAY AK TO THE RIVER ALL THE TIME! Let it go and save the bets.
There is little I can do when I flop top pair top kicker against set that is played well.  That is money I am supposed to lose.  I need to save the money that I am not supposed to lose.

Lesson for the day: LAY DOWN THE SLIM DRAWS.

December 27, 2005, 10AM: Played 33 minutes, Lost $11.00 at Party Poker
$10 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (7th out of 10 Players)

JJ in sb vs QQ smooth calls preflop

This is it, I have now sentenced myself to one table at a time.  .50/1 or $25NL or PL until I can win consistently.  It is time to get my game in order and get some discipline back.
