The Napa Valley Casino

For those who do not know the Napa Valley Casino holds a special place with myself and DeDobber ( Rob, our lovely programmer building this site, who although is a bit of a slacker is doing a wonderful job ;) When we were 16 and 17 years old his father had taken us their to play our very first live game of poker in a casino ( after giving us some preparations and schooling ) He just said I was his nephew and Rob was his son.  Back then it seemed only the old guys would play and to have fresh young blood in the establishment that would have a good 50 years of playing ahead of them would be very beneficial to the club.  Also, the laws back then weren't so anal as they are today so they didn't really care.

So tonight Mike ( my sister's man ) and I after being teased with my parents home tournament decided to roll down there.  It was actually his idea but how hard is it to convince me to go play?

The place has had banner up saying it is under new ownership/management and I have been curious as to what they have changed.  I did meet one of the future owners a couple of years or so ago playing 20-40 at the Bellagio but thought it was just all talk.  It was not.
I must give kudos to the new ownership/management at Napa Valley Casino.  They really are doing things right and have made the room into a very friendly and pleasant atmosphere.  They will have their tournament schedule out soon which is low limit/new player friendly but as well caters to more serious players as they will have $100 buy-ins.  Their website should be complete soon for those that live in this area and want to know what game and tournaments are available, their url is www.TheNapaValleyCasino.com

Their location is in American Canyon, between Napa and Valleo, off of Hwy 29, you can't miss it.

I never would have guessed that the Petrakis' family were an active poker family? I wish mine were a little more into the game! Have you been to Italy? I'm going next April for a few weeks. Have any tourist type of advise?

Yes, I do have some advice for traveling to Italy...

If you aren't bringing the wife and kids;

-Wear a condom.

-Invite me so I can have an excuse to run around.

-Bring half as many clothes and twice as much money.

-Don't ever ever bring a big ass suitcase that you have to roll around like an asshole.  Get yourself a backpack.  A real fucking backpack not one of those oval duffle bags with straps that can carry twice your body weight.  I'm talking about a backpack that you can carry on the plane so when they "lose" your luggage for 3 days you aren't screwed.  A real backpack is small and indiscrete (without any Jansport, or other identifying lables, tipping off the thieves).  I mean you will be gone for a whole 3 weeks, you just need a pair of pants, shorts and about 3 maybe 4 shirts, wear your shoes since packing them takes up too much space and bring sandals so you don't have to carry socks.  Get yourself some small ass speedo underwear, that saves a bit of space too and don't even think about bringing anything you have to plug in, unless it is the digital camera.

-Learn a bit of the language before going and practice it, they aren't like Northern Europeans who all grew up speaking english better than we did.

-Stay in cheap ass ghetto places with lots of young traveling tourists so you can meet people and go out a lot.  If you like French women open up www.freetranslation.com and put in google, "cheap youth hostels" (but in French) Make sure the site you are looking for a place at is only in that language.  The place will be flooded with French people, and we all know if you are on damn vacation you want to try something you can't get in your own country. If you end up staying in nice cozy places you will end up all alone and nowhere to go.

-Stay in a city for no less than one week, don't be like the rest of the idiot American tourists who go to like 5 countries of 8 cities in like 9 days and then brag that, "Oh! I've been there..." "Oh my god! Germany is..." and "the people are..." and "the food is..."

-Don't bring any of those stupid books like Frommers or Lonely Planet.  With three weeks or less you should really just base camp in one or two cities and possibly hit the surrounding towns to get a feel of the area.  If you do it right you will research before you go so you have a clue where you are going and what you will be seeing (during the day that is, at night you will be exploring the bar/club scene instead of sitting on a damn night train with a bunch of other silly ass Americans) "["=thought within a thought [actually having the Americans all on the train at night and off the streets/bars is a wonderful thing, I should not complain]

So.. if you are bringing the wife and kids;

-Don't invite me, hire me.

-Omit the condom thing, you won't have sex the whole time, you will be too tired, you won't even have the energy to jerk off, oh and you will want to after seeing all these hot skinny half naked sexy available latin women sweating on a hot Mediterranean day.

-Instead of going out at night it is your job to find some cool ass things to do with the family, and that is not going out to dinner every night or seeing family shows in red light districts.  I don't have kids so I have no fucking clue what you would do with them.

-Make 110% sure EVERYTHING is pre-planned and you have backup plans if the 1st plan goes to shit.  The last thing you want is to be out on the street with your family hungry and bitching at you because you missed your train reservations because you got on the train going the other direction which got you in so late that the staff at your special discounted Hilton Hilton Express sold your room for triple to some Japanese couple who thought they were actually at the Hilton.

-The rest is pretty much the same as above.

Now if you are bringing just the wife....

-Bring more condoms.

-Invite her single horny friend that flirts with you AND invite me.

-Talk about threesomes and group sex for a good month before taking this trip, if need be get a hold of that drug perverts slip into women's drinks, or just find some X.

-Don't stay in hostels or nice hotels, find a dive ass hotel that is right next to the hostel.  Make sure it has one huge king size bed, or two queens that can be slid together.

-Get up later in the day and do half as much, you will need your energy.  Get nice and saucy in the bars and go for walks later in the night exploring public places.  Roll back into the bars and search for a group of hot partiers that are going to a club, make friends with them, hopefully your night will end at noon the next day.

Man, you're a crazy mother-fucker! But I like how you think...No wifey or kids are going next year (sometime in April). It's more of a soul searching mission to find my inner self if you know what I mean? But yes I plan on making all necessary arrangements and plan on visiting, not touring the cities I decide to go to.

If no more than 2-3 cities should be visited, which would you recommend? Malan, Vatican, or Rome? I was also thinking of traveling by way of boat from Brindisi, Italy along the coast of Greece to Athens? Like I've always said, you need not be invited! You're always invited...

I'm going to be working at Napa Valley soon.  Stop by to see me, since you don't want to stop by the Grand or my house when you're in town.

Nate, to finally answer you question about traveling...

I think you will do just fine by yourself traveling around the south of France or Itialy or wherever you go.

Do pack lightly as you will be on buses and trains etc.

Do bring more money than you think.

Do learn a bit of the language, especailly in Souther Europe.

You will have a blast.  I think you should go at it alone as you will have more fun meeting new people or being alone and "finding yourself".

Enjoy, take a few pictures.
