NO $ game vs. The Professor

So I'm at work today, and I sold a car.  I'm sitting with my customer waiting for finance when we start chatting.  He plays poker.  So we break out the deck and chips and start playing a bit of heads up.  After about 20 minutes, in walks Howard Lederer to buy a new car. He completes his transaction, and while he's waiting for finance I invite him to join.  we played for maybe 30 minutes total, no $ on the line, just the 3 of us in a freeze-out.

I got involved with Howard in a couple hands.  One where I didn't have anything, raised pot preflop, checked around.  Checkx2 to me on the turn and I fire.  SB folds and Howard raises it up.  I think for a minute, realize he's on a steal and decide to call, planning my move for the river.  We're both not super high stacked in chips and he doesn't really know how I play so I figure if he's got it he'll fire onthe river, if not he'll check and I can take it down.  Sure enough he checks, I bet, he folds. :-D

I ended up busting him out with 2 pair vs. his 1 pair and a re-draw.  Fun game, just a col novelty, I beat The Professor.

We chatted for a while after, really cool guy.  Looking forward to meeting him again one day at the big-boy table.

College Basketball

Came home last night for break and watched some of the Celtics/Suns game that was not nearly as good of a game as I was hoping.  Got into three tourneys and ran good early to build big stacks in all three.  When it got down to the top 30 in each I ran like shit though and it just turned into one big tease.  I reviewed my HH's and I am really happy with how I played so no big deal I guess.  Just really frustrating.

Today, I finally got to sleep in! I have been watching college basketball all day, and I just can't wait for March Madness to start - favorite sports event of the year by far! I am going to a family friend's house who I haven't seen in forever tonight to watch the Tenn/Memphis game, eat some food, and shoot pool.  Should be a good time and maybe I can hustle some money out of my brother.

I will try to get into some tournaments tonight and then after today I should be settling into my week long poker-stretch I have been looking forward to.

EightFive

I'll match, dollar-for-dollar, any money put up by the OPL folks to bankoll EightFive in some event.

WSOP (not the main event) seems like the obvious choice, but there's probably something closer to him that would mean less travel money and less hardcore partying before the event ;).

One condition: He has to wear a tshirt of my choice during the event.  I'm thinking OutPersonals.com...I can be convinced otherwise, though.  We could make him look like a golfer and put OPL on the sleeve, WorldPokerSolutions on the back and a picture of DeiYuo on the front...

PS: My history bankrolling the more successful OPL players has been, well, a disaster, so anyone putting money into this should not expect to get much back out of it...no offense, Eightfive :).

Good Article on Late Stages of MTTs

I found this article on Pocketfives.com.  It deals with assigning players a range and making profitable tournament decisions based on those ranges during the mid to late stages of MTT's when most players are pushing or folding.  Enjoy...

Spring Break!

Today is my last day of classes (student teach 7-11, and classes 2-9...sick) before I am a free man for one whole week.  I have no plans other than sleeping and eating a lot at home and of course, playing as many MTTs as possible.

Up until just a few days ago I had really been in the mood to grind through tourneys and I looked forward to getting homework done in time for the main tourneys I play late at night.  However, the last few days I have not been as motivated to play and I am hoping the desire comes back in time for break.  Hopefully the lack of motivation stemmed from the papers, exams, and early mornings that I had this week and not some dip in enthusiasm for the game that shows up every so often.  It would be an aweful waste of a week of no school.

Anyways, assuming I am up for the challenge I came up with the following, very optimistic schedule:

**Tourney I plan to play if at all possible (all ET zone)

**12:45 $3KO FTP
**1:00 $1 6Max FTP
**2:00 $2 FTP
**2:15 $2 6Max Stars
  4:15 $5 DS FTP
  5:00 $1 FTP
  5:00 $2.5 Stars
  6:00 $1 Stars
  6:30 $2 FTP
  7:00 $1 Stars
  8:15 $2 Stars
**10:30 $1+ FTP
**11:00 $2 FTP
**11:00 $2 Stars
**12:00 $2 Stars
**12:15 $3KO FTP
**1:00 $3 Stars
**1:30 $1 FTP
**2:00 $2 FTP
**2:00 $2 Stars

Thats 20 tourneys with a total buy in of 42.50 before entry fees.  I definetly don't see myself actually playing all of these everyday, hence the ** by the ones I really want to make sure I get in.  However, I want to try and tackle that whole schedule one day just to do it...would be sick and earn serious degenerate points.  If I can do most of these I will be writing my "Fourth Set of 100 MTTs" log very soon.  Anyways, that is enough time wasted; time to do my last bit of homework and head off to classes.

Couple of Sit and Go's

Two sit and gos tonight. Both of which took forever to form but it's a Wednesday night.

Anyways, 6 person single table I went out in 3rd place. Yeah, I could've played better but I just wasn't feeling it at the table. My final hand ended up being QAs and losing to a K high flush.

9 person single table didn't start much better. I went out in 5th. It did seem like every time I won a big pot I would very soon find myself in the short stack again. Just frustrating.

Not really annoyed about the losses tonight though, just wasn't really in it mentally I guess.

3rd Set of a Hundred MTTs

So, I just finished my 300th tournament last night and I'm going to tally up what went down as I did the first 200.  During this set of 100 I started playing PokerStars along with Full Tilt.  PokerStars' tournament fields are significantly larger than Full Tilt, so my final table's will probably drop.

I played 64 tourneys on FTP and 36 on Stars.  I cashed in 40 of the 100 tournaments.  This is actually probably too high.  I need to be taking a few more shots that will bring my cash % down but my final table % up.  I had 5 final tables with two top 3's (no wins this 100 however).

I invested $305 into tourneys and cashed for $750 even.  $445 profit.

My goal from my last 100 MTTs for this set was to try to play my best game in every tourney.  I think I did this better than I had last 100 but this is an area that takes constant effort for anyone, and I am will continue to focus on this.  My goal for next 100 is to attack the late stages of the tournament better, and not get gun shy.  Last night I really blew a tourney because I didn't shove in a spot I knew I should of and it costed me.

ONLINE POKE-------ME up :(

i guess i was not ready for the online poker. I mean that i play all the time online but not with real money. I noticed a great deal of difference between play and real money online poker players. They are a different type of tight in those small cash games i think. Almost crazy/tight you know....or maybe it was the table i don't know but i was just wondering why i got murdered when all i was doing was playing super tight/aggressive with good hands. maybe a bad run or players quickly picking up on my play or not the right type of play for the game... aghhh maybe some advice. Not persay "advice" but tactics for these online games. reload.....???? also im thinking of only playing tourneys with 300 ppl or more and only try to grind them out for the big money wins..Y or N instead of cash games, tourneys only?? i seem to be better at tourneys (controlling my play)
