$24 Buy-In Pot-Limit Omaha Tournament (2nd out of 209 Players)

I AM GREEN!!!!

Decided to take a stab at this tourney even though my FT bankroll said no. I have been playing PLO very well lately.

My first table was way more aggressive than I would like it to be, but I made a few hands hold and was in the top of the field most of the tourney.

I made a few mistakes along the way, but held my composure and recovered well.  Had to watch tables to make the final table, but stayed patient and picked up a few hands along the way.  After making the final table in 9th, I was gunning for 4th, as it would have been enough to put my log into the green.

There were 2 big stacks at the final table and I avoided them when necessary and used them to double through a few times. Watched the others fall one by one and found myself heads up.  I was about a 9:1 chip dog but held up well for a bit and took a few chips off him.  He ended up flopping trip sixes when I had AA, with a majority of my chips in. pre flop.

March 14, 2008, 9PM: Played 4 hours at Cascades Casino (Langley)
$2 No-Limit Texas Hold'em

Got drawn out a couple of times and lost my origional $200 buy-in.  One with QQ..I stratled...6 callers then on me.  I knew knowone was really strong so I put out $100 expecting to win it right now.  However, young guy to my right, 19 and 1st night in a casino calls all in for $85 with As5c.  Of course flops an A.  Next hand, K10 off in the BB with 5 callers I check it.  Flop comes down 10 high rainbow.  SB (young guy) checks and I bet $15.  Folds around to the SB who calls.  I basically put him on J10.  Turn was a blank and he checks again.  I figure with the flush draw coming and him calling I should put out a good bet to either win it now, or make him pay and get the 100 he took off me earlier.  I bet out $50 leaving myself with about $45.  He calls and the river is a J, he say's "I'll put you all in" I know I'm beat but feel that I had to call.  Yup....J10....had him all the way and he would have called no matter what.

Then came back to $375 on a weird hand.  In middle position, I'm playing pretty tight the last 15-20 hands, raise $15 with Jh5h.  Everyone but the BB folds.  The flop comes down Qh 7h 5d.  BB leads out and bets $40, I reraise to $80 trying to represent a big hand now.  He then pushes all in, then....flips over his cards to reveal Ah8h.  $125 to call...I decided to call even it was 50.45% in my favour.  Ended up making 2 pair on the turn and the river was a brick.

Hand Histrory Improvements

Just made the first improvements to the hand histories in a while.  I'm always afraid of pushing stuff like this out there since I have a hard time making sure I'm chopping up all the hands properly (for each game/site combination), so please be nice if/when you notice bugs...

At any rate, when you upload hand histories, it will now attempt to extract all players' cards so that the hand history shows a summary of what was dealt to each player (whose cards are known) and what the board was.  Here are some examples:

Hold'em
Omaha
HORSE

That last one shows that Stud games work (as well as they can).  I just hope it works for each site.

As a reminder, we can parse hand histories for Full Tilt, PokerStars, and PartyPoker right now.  Obviously we'd like to get other sites' HH working, but someone would have to express desire to upload hand histories from another site first.

I hope you can see where we're going with this.  Now that the system cn extract the cards, we can head towards telling you what the odds were, wht a given player's tendencies are, what your own tendencies are, and so on.  We just need to link up the odds application with the hand histories...this was one of the main ideas of this site in the beginning.  Maybe sometime in the next 5 years it will be as awesome as we all want it to be.

Thanks for being patient, and thanks for using my little toy.

March 13, 2008, 10PM: Played 6 hours, Made $185.00 at Horseshoe
$3 No-Limit Texas Hold'em

Back to the 1/3 grind I decided...if I had a bad sess I was gonna take a month off this was it. Almost happened.

First big hand raise AJ suited in BB after 4 limps. 2 calls. Flop A84 with 2 hearts. I decide to check since there's a tricky player behind me who might bet for me. Other guy checks, tricky bets 25. I call, other guy folds. I check planning to check raise turn since I'm pretty certain I'm away ahead. Tricky bets 60 on a blank hmmmm...I decide to call and see what he does next. River pretty bad card another 4 that brings third heart. He shoves after my check...I think for few minutes and just think he hasn't represented anything so I make the call it's good.

Flopped J9 top two on a donk with AJ and stacked him off. Bluffed a tight guy next to me when my 2 pair got counterfeited on the river after I called his turn check raise and the top card paired.

Then downhill happened...reraised a dude with AQ and stupidly stacked off on QJ5 all spade flop when he had JJ. Idiotic and lost me 200. Only poorly played pot of the night.

Massively bad hand with KK after a 14 raise and 3 calls. I make it 54, 2 call wow... I shove on JcTd5c flop. Dude calls with KcQc simply amazing that he called off a third of his stack preflop with that and of course is rewarded by turning a disgusting 9. God....Then a donk donked into me for a third of the pot when I raised AT and he called on an Ad8s6s flop. I raised it to 60 and he shoved with KsTs. I called, he rivers flush.

Final big hand my KK held on all unders board vs TT. I really feel good about this session overall. I feel like I played extremely well but got very unlucky in those two huge pots. I think my confidence is baaaack........

From the Poker Blog for EightFive

March 12, 2008, 9PM: Lost $5.00 at Full Tilt
$1 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (195th out of 392 Players)

Blinds 80-160.  UTG raises to 480.  4 calls and I am in the SB with JJ.  I decide to just call and hope to flop a set.  I am getting good enough odds to set-mine, and to try and get the pot heads up preflop would have required a raise to about 3k (1/3 of my stack) which imo is not the best way to go about playing JJ here....especially out of position, and especially with no guarantee that you are getting heads up or not getting 4-bet all in.  Flop is 972, two diamonds.  I check (in hindsight i could have led and folded to a reraise but i think that i get blown off my hand too many times if i do that to make it profitable) and the orig. raiser also checks which allows me to put him on a big A and for sure not a big pair.  checks to a guy in MP who shoves for 9k (into a 3k pot), folds back to me and i think for a decent amount of time before calling.  Reasons for calling: i don't think he has a set here and makes that bet...a flush draw is very possible and if thats the case i have to call....also i have seen A9 do this here too often to exclude it from an unknown player's range.  other players fold and the all in dude shows A7! weee i am an 81% favorite to more than double to 23k (at 80-160 blinds!) but instead the A peels off on the turn.

I am obv really frustrated right now with the way I have come out in some key pots in tourneys, but I feel like I have played well and if I continue to get in these situations I will have these big stacks more often than not.  I have certainly shot myself in the foot a few times, but I am pretty confident that in most of these tourneys i am still seeing everything and making strong, +EV moves so I will keep playin and hopefully a breakthrough is right around the corner.

Weekend Goals

Goals for the weekend...

Saturday 3/12:
1100:$69+6 KO
1200:$100+9
330:$50+5
400:$69+6
600:$100+9
700:$69+6
800:$150+13

If I could get into half of these I would be extremely happy.  I'm starting with 2 $24 tokens so that is a start.  Anyone want to join me? Unfortunately I cannot play Sunday because my group thinks it's a good idea to plan meetings in the middle of the day.  I could do my work and give it to them but I don't really trust them.  Also, this summer I am going to have all of May off regardless so I should be able to play quite a bit.

Is anyone else besides EightFive, NatePringle, and me interested in the mini-stakes competition? If so, Let's try to plan a date so we can actually get this done.

Love,

King Raj

March 12, 2008, 1AM: Played 3 hours, Made $3.03 at Full Tilt
$1 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (35th out of 959 Players)

WOW...played solid, didn't get unlucky or particularly lucky in any situation just smoothly built my stack until this hand came up:

I have 36k at 800-1600 blinds.  I am on the button with AT and there is one limp in MP.  The next guy shoves for 8k after losing an allin where he went crazy so i knew he could have just about any two cards.  it folds to me on the button and I am not too worried about the blinds (just unlucky if they wake up with a monster) and the only thing i am worried about with the limper is that he may have limped to call what was prolly gonna be a shove from the boy on tilt.  with 14k in the pot and a great shot at going HU with the best hand i decided to shove to iso though and i am happy with the play despite the limper snap calling my 36 (he only had 41) with AJo....so sick...he really musta had me pegged? I can easily just fold my AT but i like my shove here given the situation...
