No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (420th out of 7170 Players)

Tournament started pretty badly but I managed to slow play through the first hour without taking too much damage and winning a couple of pots to keep myself competitive. After taking down a couple of big pots I was able to start playing a big more aggressively staying near the middle in terms of rankings.

The table I was at really let me get away with murder though for a lot of the second hour. No one wanted to call any of my pre flop raises which led to my stack doubling within just a few minutes.

I lost the final hand because I was stupid though. I openly admit that I just plain screwed up and it cost me my stack.

Blinds were at 600/1200. In late position I called the big blind with As5s. Flop came down [9s 5c 2d]. Three players in the pot. Check to me, I checked, last player bet 4800. We both call. Turn is [8d], once again check to start so I figured that my fives with A kicker were probably good since no one had bet more than the big blind (ya see why I called myself stupid?). I tried to steal by betting $4800 of my $16465, got called all around and went all in when the river came [3s]. Called all around again and first player flips over pocket KK.

I had it coming, it was a monumentally stupid play especially after I had seen her slow play AA just a couple of hands earlier.

Lesson learned I think.

Still, I placed in the top 500 out of over 7000. That's a decent showing for someone who is still trying his best to improve his game and earlier this week I placed 91th out of a field of over 7000. I admit that isn't really impressive since they're freeroll tourneys but it's a start.

Do have a question for anyone who is reading this... what are your opinions on rebuys? Do you use them? do you not use them? when do you use them or why don't you use them at all?

I started off down in this quick session when I lost with trip Js to a straight I DID NOT PUT THE GUY ON AT ALL. Then I got coolered when I made a great call on a flop of all lows with AJ and this short stack moved in. I thought he was weak and called....he had QJ and rivered a gutshot. Then I got back ahead when this maniac sat at my table. Hahaha, I knew this guy would bluff the K so that's why I checked it when it came:

$2 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (141st out of 975 Players)

Played 8 tourneys tonight; recorded the total time here.  I ran better tonight finally and had 4 cashes but they were all really small.  In a few of the tourneys I lose huge pots just outside the money or just in the money that coulda made my night a lot more successful but I am very happy with my play...I reshoved on people and wasn't afraid to keep the pressure on which allowed me to accumulate nicely in a few tourneys.  My play on the bubble needs to improve still though because this is where I began to lose my stack slowly thus needing to double desperately once we hit the money.  I was pretty card dead in some instances but still I need to be a little more aggressive.  Overall happy with my play though.

$1 No-Limit Texas Hold'em

SUcked out on by a 3 outer in a huge pot where I turned a straight. He split with me with the same straight when my card hit the river. Lost about 70 in a 3 handed pot. I raised with 33 on button the SB called. Flop was 954. I bet 12 and he raised to 24, I thought for sure he had a mediocre 9 that he would fold so I made it 62 to go. He shoved so I folded. He said he had A9. I ended up playing HU for like half an hour with a tight passive and won like 50 bucks from him grinding him down.

Massive hand later in the session had me with K9 and I limped SB HU vs BB. Flop was A27 we both checked. Turn was a 9 and I bet 1. He called. River was another 9. I bet 3. He raises to 13. Board was rainbow and I simply didn't think he had a boat because he hadn't done any betting. I figured he had a worse 9 for sure so I made it 33. He shoved for 95 total. I thought for a bit but went with my read and he had T9.

$1 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (191st out of 2585 Players)

shoved from SB with K9 when it folded to me, i had 10x the BB even...i think i could have maybe looked for a better spot but with the big antes he only needs to fold 75% of the time for this to be profitable and given his stack not being much more than mine and being a fairly tight player, i think that he would fold at least 75% of the time there.  instead, this time he woke up with KK and i lose

the only thing that makes me think i could have waited was that i was in 5th of 9 at the table so i could have come over the top of smaller stacks and maybe been more successful but i think the play is +EV i am going to post on the forums and see what they have to say

edit: the forums overwhelmingly said that this was an obvious shove, so i guess that makes me feel a little better.  it's just been so long since i have had a good score i am starting to question my own play.  i've looked through hand histories and don't find any glaring mistakes but maybe just gamble a little more to get bigger stacks so that i am not looking for a good spot with 8-12x the BB for such a high percentage of the tournament.

$15/30 Omaha Hi-Lo

This game was too hard to pass up.  It was a full game and I watched it for about 40 hands.  These guys were just ramming and jamming.  I put my chips in with the best hand...raised according to ram and jam style..getting the most bang for my buck.  I was up a bit more than my win, but really needed to get to bed for my big move tomorrow.  I really need to keep an eye on this game, as it is relatively easy to book a win.  My bankroll still isn't quite big enough for this game, but I had a feeling after getting good reads off of so many players.  Took some beats and gave some beats.

I made some great moves, isolating certain people to take half the pot with minimal risk.  Good times tonight! Can't wait to play this game again...but bedtime for now!

$2 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo

Short handed play.  Got a guy trapped twice, he had second second both times.  I like this game, but I want to be able to have a bit more backing before I play it regularly.  I will start putting some money aside, including this win, and keep my budget strict.  I want to focus on tournaments right now, and time consumption to improve my play of long periods of time.  My downfall is wanting a quick win or loss and not sit around all day.  But, I think that risk to reward is better right now to play tournaments.  I will play a little lower PLO games and focus on my tournament play.

No-Limit Texas Hold'em

Moneyt82:
Yeah, I agree with what you said about not bluffing in any situation unless you know the player well....its just a bad habit that I need to get off of.  A couple years ago, I made a lot of money playing poker by being patient and waiting for big hands and just playing them well...but now as I understand the game more I feel like I have to make big plays...which is a NONO especially cash games.

In this session:
Couple hands with horrible luck:
1st hand: Im in big blind position...and have pocket 6...about 5 callers...i just check to see a cheap flop hoping to flop a set..
flop comes Jd 6d 5s.  I check...one guy fires out and everyone else folds.  I smooth call hoping to get him to bet again...turn card: 5c ....I was thinking baam...im all set..dont have to worry bout flush now...i check, he bets out and i smooth call again.  Guess what the river card was...a Jack...killed my boat

2nd hand:
Im holding QJ and flop comes Qs10sQd.....i decided not to slow play because there are too many draws out there...i come firing out..two callers...turn card: 5s ...i checked, guy bets and other guy raises..im like shit..i cant even call it anymore..so i mucked. other guy reraises all in..both had flushes..both hit their 6 outers...12% chance on the turn? lol

Hand I should not have bluffed at especially againts bad player:
everyone limped in..im on the button with 5h7h
FLOP: Ah 10c 3h
middle person bets out 25...i call...and first person called too..
TURN: 7s
first person checks, middle person fires again with 50..so im thinking i have a flush draw with a pair...perhaps i can represent two pairs and take down the pot...and also there might be a higher flush draw out there i need to get rid of, so i made it 150...first player folds..and intial bettor hesitates and makes the call.
RIVER: Jc
He checks to me..and I fired out 150. He hesitates and finally was like "Eh..  i just want to see your cards" He flips over AK...lol..couldnt get rid of him. ED! DONT TRY TO MAKE MOVES AGAINTS BAD PLAYERS!!S

No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (10 Players)

Just playing sit and go's heads up..

Worst beat I've ever gotten:
Im dealer..I raised with 10d4d hoping to just steal the blinds. Player calls.
FLOP: 4s4cQh.
He checks, I come firing out.  He calls instantly.  What im thinking is that he doesnt believe I hit the flop and he has overs.
TURN: Ad
he checks..and i still fire away..i dont think that hurts my hand and he calls instantly so i put him on an ace with a mediocre kicker
RIVER: Kc ...he checks..I still fire away..and he pushes all in...HE CHECKED RAISED ME!!! so what im thinking is..he must have flopped a boat, but heads up? maybe he had Kings or Aces... i guess i have to pay him off.
he turns over 10 J ..runner runner straight hahahaa thats unbelievbable

$30 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (1st out of 9 Players)

first poker log wanted to start with a win so yea..... played well was short stacked then stole some blinds doubled up with 66 vs. AJ and punked all the way to first place stealing blind after blind!!!!!! so put in 33 into this tourney got 135 back feels good to win this tourney cause I've been loosing some sig( sit n gos) i think 4 in a row at 50 dollars each so it made my shark scope look negative, and i know with my skill i should not be in the negative with sigs and also i finally balanced out my shark scope rankings so overall slow day but positive is all that matters....
