January 18, 2008, 6PM: Played 1 hour, Lost $50.00 at Hooter's
$50 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (27th out of 42 Players)

Felt good about my table.  Didn't get out of line.  Took a tough beat for about half my chips with A/K suited against K/Q suited(K/Q floped a flush).  About six hands later under the gun moved all-in for a little more than I had.  Looked down at wired queens, didn't really like it, but couldn't get away from it.  UTG turned over kings, no improvement, and that was that.
Kyle and I are covering the other ones buy in when we play together when one of us cashes for a fair amount.  It helped him out the other day and tonight he took third so it came back around.  Fun stuff.  So while I waited for him I thought I'd check out the live game...

January 18, 2008, 8PM:
Call me superstitous...

Not sure that there's been any real level of concern over my lack of daily entries... I was playing a shit load in October and November, but started to run cold.

At first I started to blame it on blogging, kind of like having a shirt be unlucky... so, I did the SMART thing.  No, I didn't take a break, I just stopped blogging.

Kept playing, whittled my online account down a fair bit... so once December hit, I stopped playing online except for the random day to give myself a break and concentrate on finishing school.

Fellow player on here staked me a few times at live games, and that was the only way I was really getting money for rent and random out nights.

I finally got my bachelor's in Journalism in December and have been happily unemployed since.  I've been gradually picking up the online play more, but I'm reallllly encountering a lot of variance... both in my play and the cards.

Live I was running relatively well and getting paid off on semi-decent hands, so I kept getting staked... but the last three times I've sat down have ended pretty poorly... so, kind of on the look out for something part-time to fund the poker as well as kill time until I get a "real" job.

So... basically I stopped blogging because I blamed it for me running bad.  Smart, I know.

If you'll have me back, I'll eagerly run my post count up a ridiculous amount.

January 18, 2008, 1PM: Played 2 hours, Lost $32.00 at Ringo's
$32 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (9th out of 33 Players)

So close to three cashes in a row.  Made the final table with 7500 in chips.  Blinds are 1000/2000.  A couple hands in I move all-in under the gun with pocket 10's.  Everyone folds to the big blind who calls what he has(4500)with pocket aces.  Flop a ten and river another one to lay a tough beat on the BB.
Now, smiling with 13,000 in chips, the next hand I'm in the Big Blind with wired Kings.  Two under the gun raises to four thousand, everyone folds, I push all-in.
Other people at the table try to bait him into calling, saying it's just a fraction of what he had(not really true, but whatever).  I'm telling the guys "don't talk him into it!", praying for a call.  He states aloud that he thinks it's a race before finally, after a few minutes, calling.
Proudly, I flip over my kings and and he turns over a pair of 3's.  Flop came a 3 with no more help for the good guy.  He apoligizes for the beat.  "It's all good" I tell him.  What goes around comes around, I guess.

December 31, 2007, 11AM: Played 2 hours, Lost $255.00 at Limelight
$3 No-Limit Texas Hold'em

Lost 220 on AA vs KK, and was actually thinking of laying the KK down preflop.  I just knew the guy had AAs, but realized during the hand that I'd be foolish to EVER lay down KK preflop.  I slow play, and he raises in small blind to $20, so I raise back to $60.  He raises me another $75, so obviously he's ready to put it all in right there.  He wasn't on tilt, as a matter of fact, he was playing pretty solid poker and had accumulated over $500.  I put him on AA or QQ and said to myself that I'm never going to lay down KK preflop, so I just went all in and he called immediately.  Oh well, those all even out in the long run.

January 15, 2008, 10PM: Lost $2.20 at PokerStars
$2 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (432nd out of 975 Players)

Got some $ transferred to me on stars so i played this $2 tourney...really weird hand went down when i was still at about my starting stack:

5 limps, and i check in BB with 95...Flop=T95 rainbow...i bet 400 (pot was 300) and get two calls and then a guy shoves for 1700...i thought for a min but folded thinking one guy had to have a set or T9....the all in got one call from the 87! the shover had Q5!!!!!!! so that left me in trouble and i couldn't double.

i know this was just one tourney but the play that i saw was much worse than full tilt from what i could tell.  i am looking forward to putting in a few more tourneys over there to see what happens.

January 9, 2008, 7PM: Played 7 hours, Made $222.00 at Gold Strike - Tunica
$200 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (14th out of 207 Players)

i raise from cutoff with Q8d to 1600, bb min raises to 3200 and i have to call. flop comes QQ9. he leads in for same 3200, i move in for $21000 more and he calls! he calls with ATd. what are you doing dude? thanks for the gift. once i got some chips i was again super agro. we played with 19-23 player left, money bubble, for a long time and i won almost 2 out of every 7 hands. once in the money, i made bad/amibitious call with KQh vs TT in a monster pot. i bricked off. if i win that pot, i know without a doubt i go on to win. several hands later, i move in with A6d for 9 bb's. bb wakes up with JJ. busto. disappointed. my tournament game is on right now!

January 9, 2008, 3PM: Played 2 hours, 30 minutes, Lost $500.00 at Gold Strike - Tunica
$5 No-Limit Texas Hold'em

crazy hand, i call min raise from bb with J6s, 6 people to the flop 4T9 spades, everyone checks. turn is Qh. i check again, early player bets $25, raised to $75, i smooth call. the EP guy moves in for $280, the raise moves in for $600, i make the call for my whole stack. EP had Q8s and flopped it too, so i need to win the side pot against the guy who has AsQd. no spade on the river, i win a little. then this, smooth call a straddle with TT cuz he had been raising every one of his straddles and i wanted to disguise the strength of my hand. no raise. flop 259, i lead out for $25, he makes it $75, i make it $150, he calls. turn is a J, i bet $200, he puts me allin and i make a crying call. i cant see how he hit the jack. he shows me J4o!!! he put in $150 on the flop with nothing of nothing meaning to bluff me later and instead hit his miracle 3 outer to make a winner. jeez

$100 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (4th out of 114 Players)

sat tight for a long time and waited patiently for good hands. when they came and held up, i started to gather chips and got more aggressive, raising every opportunity i had. this paid off in several hands: raised with 68d and called a smallish allin and beat AJ. my favorite, i raise the button with T4h, bb calls. flop is 3hTsJs, he check raises me allin and i go into the tank but make a tough call. i have to fade spades, a gutshot and 2 overs. he missed the world and i win. i won basically all my coin flips and even the 60-40s. once i got to the final tbale i went totally card dead and did my best just to pick the blinds and hold on.
