$50 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (8th out of 43 Players)

River Card Room Friday night Tourney.
$50+5 if you place top 10 you are awarded points towards a freeroll in June.

placed 8th out of 43.  kinda a grind.  i made final table very short stacked (about 4 big blinds) i folded about 10 hands in a row and 2 players went out before i hit big blind second time around.  player who had been hot made 2.5x bb raise, i called w/ best odds i'd seen.  my Q6c vs AJ.  dead board, A high took me out.
rewarded 3 points towards frequent player freeroll in june.  my total is now 29 points.  not bad considering i have made final table 3 out of last 4 tourneys here.  2nd, 3rd, 8th.

the definition of "run over". i had queens and jacks 4 times each. each time i raised, got called in 5 places by the limpers. each time someone chased me down. got low from losing. raised with AK, all the limpers called, one guy allin. flop A57. i bet into a dry sidepot. one guy checkraises allin. hes an idiot and i know i have the best hand. he has A9. turn is a 9, i lose. daryl raises to $7, i make it $32 with AK, he moves allin for $30 more. he has AQ, flops a queens, i lose. 3 limpers, i push in for $30 with QJ. sb wakes up with AK. i flop a queen, he turns an ace, i lose lose lose.

$0.25 Pot-Limit Omaha

A little step up in limit for me.  I had gotten used to the .10 PLO and have the bankroll to play .25 so I decided to give it a shot.  I am so used to having very little money on this acct, that I had to play low limits I have forgot to look at other games.

Nothing special. I think I played really solid this session, taking chances when warranted, but not chasing.  I was tight pre, but changed up my play post that got a couple of calls when I had pretty decent hands.  I need to work on value betting the river.  There were a few hands I checked that I should have put a bet in.

I lost a few hands at showdown, which is actually good for me.  I have been reluctant to call bets on the river without close to the nuts, unless slightly tilting.  I need to continue to work on my river play to maximize value.

March 27, 2008, 4PM:
Yet Another Re-Focus

Alright.  It's time to refocus.  Recently I have not been having the results that I hope to have.  Part of this is a function of putting in a smaller volume.  However, I have also lacked motivation, had a busy schedule of classes and homework, and yes, I have even been relatively unlucky (I've vented enough about this already).

But, no more excuses.  I still may struggle getting in the volume I would like to but it's time to get the train back on the track.

I have a new, refocused plan with several goals.  I think that as I try to stay aggressive on bubbles and in late stages of tournaments, I have gotten a little reckless/sloppy.  I don't think I have developed the right feel for these spots quite yet, but continued experience will help.  In the mean time, I just need to focus more in the stages leading up to the bubble so that I have more information on my opponents to help make better decisions.

Goals:

1) Take better notes on players through out the tournament.

2) Stick to $1 and $2 MTTs.  Both so that I can get a better grip on my game again, and because I have cashed out some funds and my online roll is a little smaller now.

3) Don't think about the money or my finish, just try to make the best play at every stage.

4) Make a couple final tables in the near future.  It's been a looong time.

Many of my goals are based on relatively simple aspects of the game, but I think that when you are struggling that is the best thing to get back to.

$230 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (90th out of 100 Players)

Wow this was a wild ride for 30 minutes 3 people at my table were knocked out early on. It was very weird play people limping with AA and KK in the same hand then others calling raises with k2 off. Anyway, I pick up 66 raise to 150 in MP (blinds 25/50) one guy smooth calls flop is Q high I chek he bets 100 I decided to peel on off thinking he may be on a flush draw. 8 on the turn check check I catch my 6 on the river and we both end up all in he has QQ for top set. I should have check raised the flop and see where I was at my mistake....

*Although these step ones are turbo crap shoots, I'm running extremely bad in them right now, that is to say, when 3-4 left and the short stack stacks off and is behind he gets there.  When I am ahead and stack off they get there, when I have a big pair some agro makes a donk play back with Ax or KTs and gets there.. I just have to pound through it and play the best I can*

These are all my Step Tournaments for Stars I will consolidate the entry for simplicity.

Top 2 - 1
3rd's - 1
6th's - 2
8th's - 1
9th's - 1

Played 0 Step 3's
I have;
1 WSOP Step 3

*playing one of them at a time yeilds best results*
*Turbos suck ass and turns into a crap shoot*

My value of all step twos are $648 so in the 10 hours of play and almost 100 steps played.. I'm "ahead" a whole $45 about.

To maintain my invested value I will need to turn 7 of my 21 step 2s into step 3's.  Since top 5 out of 9 stay in the system, 3rd and 4th repeating step 2.. I think this will be "easier" to do then Step 1's.

I may think about saving time and just firing off step 2's from now on.

$22 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (602nd out of 1255 Players)

This was extremely annoying tournament.  Was just playing one tourney and paying attention.  This was my problem, I knew wtf everyone was doing an up to.  I had the agro asshole donk(Pikwolf)on my immediate left.  He would consistently overbet all in.  Then when I do have him trapped for my stack with AJ after re-raising the other donk who raises early with any two he shoves all in.  Now I think, ok.. he MUST have a hand now since two players in early position both showed strength.. but no.. after I fold the monkey shows A2s.  I think I saved my stack though as his luck box would have made a flush ;)

I go out with AJ vs JJ, JJ re-raises me pre flop out of position and calls off his stack with a board or QT9 7 with three clubs. I did not have to semi bluff off my stack but hell, I had 15 nut outs and 3 to tie, the nut flush draw, str8 draw and an ace draw.

I'm just annoyed because I really wanted to bust that prick on my left and after taking good notes on him and his tendencies I'm angry with myself for letting him be a donk and not pay for it.

Wow...I really hate myself right now...I had a huge stack and it got folded to me on the button, I stole the blinds...the very next hand I pick up AQs....it gets folded to me again and I raise...the BB, another huge stack which I had covered by 3000, pushed all-in...it was a huge overpush and I read it as weak (ie. something like a small pocket pair, etc.) I call and he flips up AK....I should have just folded and lived to fight another....if it was a small pocket pair, I'm willing to gamble there to build a massive chip stack...man that sucks...

$3 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (18th out of 236 Players)

close but no cigar again.  the main thing i thought was that he rarely has AQ or AK here because that is often a reraise.  also i thought he could have a smaller A...in these small limit MTTs they will flat out of the blinds in that spot with A2 cuz they just can't fold an A.  however, it may have been optimistic thinking.  other than that i was pretty torn, kind of awkward stack sizes made me say what the hell.  anyways don't know what else i really think about my last hand right now....opinions welcome as always.
