I'm finding step twos more difficult.. they still are turbos but people don't bust out as quickly.  So I can't fold down to 3-5 players and then "turn it on".  They also are more aggressive.  Also, to stay on track with money invested I will need 9 step 3's and it is looking like that may not happen :(

*frustrated*

$175 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (4th out of 51 Players)

Well I feel really mixed about this win.  I would ahve to say I'm happy about the cashing, making $.  Not sure if I'm really happy with the results.  Started off really lucky, got a big stack, then got unlucky and got short chipped.  Then I got all in and hit a 3 outer to double up.  Then I got all in and hita 3 outer to double up, AGAIN.  Then I built up some chips and called a short stacked player's all in w/ AK.  He had KK and I hit ANOTHER 3 outer.  I built up a big stack and went to the final table as a top 3 chip stack.  I played very patiently and wasn't very active until we were around 6 handed.

One player was very active, playing and hitting almost every flop.  she developed a very big chip stack but I was able to figure out here betting patterns.  I knew she bet big when she was on a draw and I pushed in when that was the case.  She called me and had the same draw with a better high card.  Draw missed and she took me out w/ K hi.

I'm just so torn on how I played the end of this tourny because I had this chip leaders number, and even being covered 10 to 1 in chips heads up I think I had a shot at her.  I was the only player at the table she was afraid of and would shy away from a pot.  When I went out there was another player w/ only about 4 big blinds worth of chips.  Was it correct to make the play or be more patient? I'm unhappy of the result.  I didn't use the information I had to it's full extent.

$500 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (88th out of 508 Players)

Ugh!!!!! I was really confidant going into this tourny.  This is a great structure for me, just like the one I cashed in at Harvey's in November.  I've been playing my recent tournment strategy of somewhat tight play.  I don't force hands to come, but wait patiently and try to stay at 20+ times the Big Blind.  This tends to help me go rather deep frequently, but I don't usually have a lot of chips when I get there and need them.  They style seems to rely on me getting at least 60% winning percentage when the blinds get tough and the competition gets desperate. Perhaps I need to push a bit more when it gets tough like this, but in my experience that leads me to go out on a bluff and leave pissed off, wondering how far I could've gone.

I was really sure I was going to cash n this event, I really couldn't believe it when I got busted outside the money.  In level 6 my AK went down to a short stack's AJ, and I was short on chips ever since.  I went to level 8, $400/$800 w/ $100 ante with $12,900 in chips.  Not bad, but not good, either.  I played the first 2 hands I was delt at this level, losing my raise the first and picking up the blinds and antes the second, so staying near even.  I then had to muck the next 20-30 hands in a row, not even getting a hand I could play with.  I was around 8,000 in chips when I picked up A 8 suited one off the button.  I barely had to think before I shoved all my chips in.  The button woke up with JJ and it was all over but the crying.

I'm not sure why I moved in instead of making a 3x raise of the BB, probably because I had mucked so many previous hands If I had made that raise and got re-raised I could've mucked.  I would've been really short stacked, but I could've seen a few more hands.

EDIT: After playing another main event and several more tournaments I amend my opinion from earlier.  I believe an all-in right there is the correct play.  I would prefer to pick up the blinds and antes right there, not get called and play a pot.  The worst case scenario just happened to come about, and I was up against a big pocket pair.  Even that being the case I'd rather take the chance that the 3 players left to act DON'T have a big pair, and if they do draw towards my ace or flush.  I now agree with my all-in play.(4/29/08)

$175 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (16th out of 116 Players)

Well it wasn't a huge win.  While I was proud of myself I'm also pissed at myself.  I pulled a Scotty Nguyen.  Built up a substantial chip stack, then felt like I was invincible and could just bully people as much as I wanted.  I should have changed gears and been patient.  Snap off when I have the cards, and only bully in the right situation.  Instead I tried to bluff nearly every un-raised pot.  I had over $40k in chips, and was the tournament chip leader when there were about 45 people left.  2 rounds later I was down to about $22k and was just below the average chips stack, because I was being to agressive, wasn't preserving chips, and instead shoving raises out there to try and take down a pot as often as possible.  I didn't figure out how bad I messed up till on my way home and the next day.  I REALLY blew a chance at a strong finish in the tourny.

My last had was a disaster, too.  I flopped second pair on the blind, decided to check-raise.  I check, my opponent bet out, I raised, he re-raised, I shoved in.  Why did I shove in with second pair? I was short on chips but I wasn't down to less than 5 big blinds, even after my re raise.  I blame it on to many hours a the table in one day.  It was 1am and I got to caesers at 9am.  That's a long day.

I blame my Scotty Nguyen performance on lack of tournament experience.  While my many many hours of live game experience net me the ability to play exceptionally well in many situations I still need to figure out what my personal best tournament strategy is.  I feel much closer to it than I did a month ago.

$55 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (1st out of 10 Players)

Yay! I finally won a satellite! On the second hand I got AA all in preflop vs. 10 10 and LOST.  Guy flopped a 10, and left me with only $75 of my 800 starting chips, with blinds at 25/25.  A few hands later I got all my money in and tripled up.  Couple hands later I doubled up again.  Then I just steam-rolled my way into the chip lead and into heads up as a 5 to 1 chip favorite.  Quickly ended heads up and took my seat in the day's main event.  I played agressive and tried to pick up lots of pots and gamble a little bit.  This strategy seems to work really well in the satellite events.

April 28, 2008, 6PM:
WSOP Fantasy League Update

RyanMo6707 and I have drafted our teams.  Overall I like my team.  Ryan probably has a little more well-rounded team when it comes to different games, but a few of them don't play a very full schedule of tournaments.

My Team--------------------RyanMo6707's Team

Daniel Negreanu------------Phil Ivey
Phil Hellmuth--------------Allen Cunningham
Chris Ferguson-------------Erik Seidel
JC Tran--------------------Johnny Chan
Barry Greenstein-----------Gus Hansen
Michael Binger-------------Scott Fischman
Mike Matusow---------------Scotty Nguyen
Scott Clements-------------Howard Lederer
Erik Lindgren--------------Michael Mizrachi
Jonathan Little------------Huck Seed

I think my team has an edge in NL Holdem, because a lot of the guys will play more events and play them better.  Also, if I was torn before a few guys, I went with the guy I would like to root for the most.  That will make the 6 week sweat (or however long it is these days) that much more fun to follow.  Just over a month and I will hopefully have a points lead to post!

April 27, 2008, 7PM: Played 3 hours, 15 minutes, Made $105.00 at Happy Endings
$2-$10 Spread-Limit Texas Hold'em

What a frustrating session for a win. I'm involved in 3 crucial pots and lose 2 and win 1. It is a 1-2 blind game.
1st hand: Have AA in middle position, player UTG calls, I raise to $7, SB calls and UTG calls. Flop KJT rainbow. I get checkraised by the SB and UTG cold calls 20. I call and the turn is a boardpair J. Checks around. River card is the 8, SB checks, UTG bets 10, I call SB calls. UTG rolls over 97o, SB has KQo.
2nd hand: I raise on the button with 89o, BB reraises and we get 1 other caller. Flop 982 with 2 clubs. I have 8c. It checks to me and I bet 10 and the BB calls. Turn is the Ac and I get checkraised and just smooth call. River 3c, BB bets I call and he rolls over AKo with the K of clubs.
3rd hand: Have AA on the button and make my standard raise to 7. Flop AQQ, Player in the BB fires out 6 and everyone else folds so I just call. Turn is a blank and he bets 10 and I put him all in for 17. Ofcourse he's the biggest donkey at the table and runs out of chips when he gets married to A4o.
The same player who called 20 cold with 97o pays me off in back to back hands with J high on both of them after I raise him on the river. It's kinda an odd play for him considering he's 1 of the only 2 decent players in the game. Kinda baffling.
