July 1, 2008, 9PM: Played 1 hour, Lost $2.25 at Full Tilt
$2 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (98th out of 275 Players)

Again, I feel very happy with how I played.  I start each night positive and excited to play and really feel as though I am playing my best.

Today I even spent an hour or two watching a few of my recent tourneys in a hand replayer NatePringle told me about and I noticed a few things I could have changed but for the most part I think I am making solid decisions.

However, the first tourney I sit down and play I am 3 outted on the river again.  It's actually rather amazing that I am a 93% favorite this many times going to the river but I have lost an unbelievable amount of them.

I am about to have a few days where my girlfriend comes to down and we enjoy some 4th of July fun.  Maybe this little break will help, but I really think I just need to string together a few key pots in a row before another big score comes my way.  In the mean time I am going to try and stay positive and aware that everyone goes through this and I just need to keep my head down and play good.

aa v's 22

OK i know the numbers and all but i honestly think there is an argument to be made for 22 being better than aa. how many times do you win a huge pot with bullets unless you manage to get it all in preflop? And if you do get it all in preflop how many times do they get cracked? now think of all the times you just couldn't trow them away and ended up losing a fortune or worse yet busting out of a tourney. it can seem like you never win hug with them but always lose huge. i mean unless you hit your ace you've only got one pair and how often do you win a massive pot with only one pair? if you do hit your ace its pretty unlikely anyone else as one so failing them hitting two pair or maybe a lower set your not going to make too much off the hand cause of that ace on the board. you only have a 1 in 8.3 chance to hit the flop so you pretty much have to make up your mind there and then how much you are actually willing to put out here.

But if you flip that around i've never heard of anyone with a drop of skill not be able to trow away 22. you have to same chance to hit your set but if you do who is going to be afraid of that 2 on the board? im probably wrong and i have obviously had a bad night with aces which is what leads to this rant but it just seems like they are giving too much weight. i hate getting them cause i know how im supposed to play them but i don't want to cause it means me putting faith in a hand i hate.
oh and use the code power1 on full tilt for a 100% bonus on you're first deposit up to $600. nice way to start off your bankroll!

Gettin Backed

Jaspinal sent me some money to play bigger buy in tournaments and today I played some.  I played 4 $10 mtts and a $5 mtt.  I only cashed in one and it was a tiny one in Midnight Madness, and I was down 38.60 for the day.

I ran like shit like which continued in the 2 smaller mtt's I played with my own money.  I decided not to log those tourneys since each individual tournament isn't really affecting my bankroll.  After I get in several more (if he doesn't pull the plug) I will log any profit I have in the end.

Nice cash tonight in the 50-50 by the way Jasp.

EDIT: nevermind...I ran bad, dropped 50 and felt bad (even though Jasp runs good and wins enough to cover all that anyways) and sent him his money back....i have no problem grinding my micros

$55 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (13th out of 873 Players)

Probably the luckiest I have been in a tourney.  Times I was all-in KJ beat AK and AQ sooted cracked AA.  I was having internet troubles the whole time and folded AA after a preflop raise when there were about 16 left.  Also had to fold QQ and 1010 because I didn't get back in time.  I'm going to buy a new computer today and probably throw this one out my window.  I donked off at the end.  The guy's betting pattern made it obvious that he had something but oh well I suppose.  I shouldn't have made it this far anyway.

$0.10/0.20 Texas Hold'em

Time: 2:30PM-3:30PM, 5:30PM-6:45PM, 9:00PM-11:30PM
Hands Dealt: 305

Today's summary - down, up, major down. Nothing special in the first two sessions. Finished down $2.24 in the first session. Finished up $3.00 in the second session. Should have just called it a day there, as I ran like crap in the final session. Anytime I made a hand, it got ran over hard with a river flush. If I made a straight, someone made a higher one. Just was not my night. Going to sleep it off and come back swinging tomorrow.

Earned another "gold chip" tonight, now giving me 3. Considering a Apple Ipod Nano is 690 chips, and I am earning 2 chips a month, I am only 28 years away from owning an Ipod.

This was a 2.5K Guarantee Tourney WITH OVERLAY (as always @ tha dog), and I was in for $20...8th place payed $65. Biggest ups and downs I think I've ever experience in one tourney...Built a monster stack and got whacked like 4 times, and the 4th time I just hung in there down the stretch...Busted w/ AQo @ the final v.s. ATs and KK...I was like 4th in chips and was only like 9.5BBs deep...KK was 5BBs deep and AT had us both covered...KK held and AT hit a T on me as well for the side pot...GG me...

Won a $26 tourney chip a month or so ago and it was burning a hole in my acct, so I decided to find one to play tonight.  This is not my favorite game to play tourney-wise.  I like it live or limit in tourneys, but I thought what the hell.

right now I am 4 of 19 left at the third break.  I have been cautious and only had to go all-in twice.  I am just climbing the ladder and hoping to make the final table.  I think I grind well once I make the money.

Blinded to death and took a stab on the button against the chip leader in the bb.  He would call and/or raise with anything so couldn't put him on a hand.  He had AAxx and it held.  Not the ending I wanted to this tourney, but I guess it is better than the rest of the tourneys I played tonight.

I have nothing to say...

...but that certainly never stops me as those of you who know can attest to.  I am finally feeling back to myself after suffering for most the last 12 months with a ruputred disk in my back.  The surgery went well and I am on my way to a full recovery and hopefully back to having something to log on this particular site.  It was nice of Jesse to take time out of his vastly busy schedule in Butte for 2 weeks to stop by and see me one time in my weakened condition.  Maybe if he visits for a month next time we can actually have dinner or a drink, what a treat that would be.

June 27, 2008, 12AM: Played 3 hours, Made $0.66 at Full Tilt
$2 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (20th out of 242 Players)

Alright I decided to go through writing out my hands again but I am going to have to pick up mid tourney.  This is a $2 double stacked tournament.

Blinds 120-240 Ante 25 (79 left of 242)

UTG - AQ and 5900 chips.  I raise 2.5x.  BB calls.  Flop is J65 and BB checks.  I lead for 3/5 the pot and he snap shoves on me.  I have to fold and am down to 4200.

BB - 72s...check and fold on bad flop.

SB - 74o and fold.

Button - 4k stack 150-300 blinds with 25 ante.  FOld 85 to a raise.

CO - Fold J5o to a raise.

HJ - KTo...very close spot when it is folded to me but there are new players at the table in the blinds and I decide to fold.

MP - 3900 chips...T9o...fold.

MP - QTo...fold.

UTG - Q8s...fold.

Table Change MP - 3,800 left.  One guy limps...I fold QJ...my only move is to shove and I am not taking down the blinds often enough to shove here, I don't think.

Blids Up to 200-400 with 50 ante...time to gamble...MP J2o...fold.

EP - T7o...fold.

UTG - J6o...fold.

BB - 3250 after posting the 400 BB...1k in the pot to start the hand...Q2s...MP raises...SB calls...I fold....tempted to squeeze but I do not know what a min raise from the MP player means and Q2 is too weak anyways.

SB - 63o...LP limps, button limps, I shove.  I am thinking that I have just enough to have a little FE given that the stacks that limped were only 8-10k.  Also if I get called it is probably 40/60...The biggest risk is obv that they call with 44-99 but I am so short I will have to get lucky and it looked like a spot I may get folds (and I did).

Button...MP raises and I fold K6.

CO- 4600...Open shove 44, the button calls with AQ and I win a race to get to 10.5k.

HJ - fold 57

MP - 77...Guy to my right limps...I limp, 5 total see the flop. J84...checks...6 on turn...checks to me I bet 2/3....everyone folds.

MP - Limp on my right and I fold Q9.  This guy on my right is playing pretty loose/passive.

Break: Blinds will be 250-500, 50 ante...I have 12,400...25th of 59.

EP - A7o, open fold.

UTG - T4o, open fold.

Table Change...EP - 43o, open fold.

UTG - 87s, open fold.

BB - K9o...late pos. limp, button and SB limp, I check.  JTT flop....I check/fold to LP bet.

SB - T7o...fold to MP raise.

Button - 11,300 chips...fold 93o.

CO - T6s, open fold...wanted to raise to steal but relatively new table with not a lot of info on players in the blinds.

HJ - 52o, open fold.

MP - 82o, open fold.

EP - 65s, utg limps, I fold.

UTG - A7o, open fold.

BB - 44, MP raises 4.5x...I fold...his raise was dumb and I wasn't sure what it meant.  No need to go broke with 44 here.

SB - 73, fold.

Button - Blinds now 300-600.  Fold A2 when MP makes it 4x.

CO - K6o, Fold to same player making it 4x again.  (showed KK)

HJ - T5o, fold.

EP - T3o, fold.

UTG - 9,800 fold KJo.

BB - Q5s, folded to EP raise.

SB - J9o, fold to LP raise.

Button - 93o, fold.

CO - (8,690 chips.  300-600 blinds.  45 people left.  27 paid.) Q6o...I open fold because the BB has 5k and I don't want to be priced in to call him if he 3-bets all in on me.

HJ - 35o, fold.

MP - 96s, fold.

MP - 97o, fold.

EP - T3s, fold.

UTG - Blinds raised to 400-800 with 100 ante.  Shove/fold time with 8300.  Fold 72.

BB - 53o...really need to pick up a hand.  Fold to EP raise.

SB - 6800 behind.  2k in pot to start.  A7o...button open limps.  I shove (BB has a little less than me), BB calls and the button folds.  BB shows KQs...and I hold to bust him and get to 15,500.

Button - T4s, fold.

CO - 87, fold.

HJ - K7o, open fold because BB has a stack i would have to call if he 3-bets all in.

MP - A9o...fold to over shove by steaming player.

MP - T7s, open fold.

EP - 63s, open fold.

UTG - K3o, open fold.

BB - T8o, fold to MP raise.

SB - T4o, fold.

Button - KJo, EP limp, I raise to hopefully steal and I had a tight image (if they notice) and it worked.

CO - Q9, fold to raise.

MP - K9o, fold.

MP - Blinds raise to 500-1k, I have 15k but there are a lot of similar sized stacks.  73o, fold.

UTG - 74, fold.

BB - AKo, I get a walk :(

SB - K7o, fold to LP 4x raise.

Button - 56o fold to big stacks in blinds.

CO - K3o, fold to LP shove.

HJ - J8o, fold.

MP - The open-raises at this table have been huge.  33, fold to UTG raise.

EP - K8o, fold.

UTG - 64o, fold.

BB - 84s, fold to tons of action.

SB - J4s, fold.

Button - Q7o, raise first time on button at this table, and get repopped. akldjfla;jdf

CO - T8o, fold.

HJ - 5 til the money and half the people in the tournament have 10-16 bb's.  I need a double to feel safe.  Usually bubble in spots like this with AK against QT.  J9o...fold.

MP - Blinds up to 600-1,200.  Q2o, fold.

EP - 83o, fold.

UTG - K6o, fold.

BB - K6s, fold to shove.

SB - AT, alkdjfa;lkdfj Shove, called by KT...fuckin split on river.

Button - J2, fold to shove.

CO - K8o, open fold...kinda tight here but all three players on my left have huge stacks so i have less FE.

HJ - 57o, fold.

MP - J8s, fold.

EP - SHove AKo, get called by AK, split.

UTG - 86o, fold.

BB - Q7, I get a walk, nice.

SB - 94o, fold.

Button - 93o, fold.

LP - 43o, fold.

MP - 87o, fold.

MP - 95o, fold.

EP - Q9o, fold.

BB - 53o, fold to MP raise.

SB - Blinds up to 800-1600, I only have 9k.  93o, fold.

Button - A5o, fold to UTG shove.

CO - JT, open fold.  Kind of nitty but it would be for all my chips and we are on the bubble.

MP - Just cashed.  87o, fold.

MP - 56o, fold.

EP - T7s, fold.

UTG - K4, fold.

BB - Super short.  KJ its going in.  SB called my shove with K5, I held.

SB - A9, fold to shove and call.

Button - A5o, made a bad/tight fold.  I'm a nit.  I know its bad yet I didn't pull the trigger.

CO - 96o, fold.

MP - I'm 16/24 with 16k.  82o, fold.

MP - 76o, fold.

EP - T2, fold.

UTG - Q6s, fold.

BB - Q3s, fold to button shove.

SB - KJ, I have 11,800.  fold to raise and reraise.

Break - I am 20th of 22.  I still have enough chips to make it tough to call for most stacks when I shove so I don't feel completely out of it I just need to pick up a hand or two.  Blinds will be 1k-2k.  I will def be shoving soon though.

Button - 87s, fold to shove.

CO - A5, fold with 3 limps in front of me.  I am really just trying to be the first one in the pot at this point.

MP - K2o, Shoved, and got folds.

EP - T2o, fold.

UTG - 7-handed shove KQ...folds.

BB - fold to shove.

SB - 87o, open shove (bb is short too), he folds.

Button - KJs shove, BB called with AT, and I lose.  Happy about shoving KJs here everytime.

Very annoying to cash for this small.  Don't really think any payout structure should include a payout that is only 30% ($2 -> $2.66) but whatever.  Glad to get deep.  Had a few hands I could have won late that would have allowed me to have a great shot at a final table at least.  Split with AT v KT and then got it in with AK and chopped a pot with another AK...other than that really never had a hand.  Happy with my play.
