$2 No-Limit Texas Hold'em

no bueno... me and m sat down at a short handed table, all players had us covered.  i'm seat 2, 9 is pushing me around from the getgo as i miss my flops.  i look at my AA and raise 4x bb he calls, Jxx flop, i bet a near pot size bet -- mistake... he decides to call and turn is a J... i mistakenly put him on a spade draw so i push all in, i should have checked to see if he just got his trips but i didn't, he calls, and shows AJ.  i didn't buy in again because i didn't have any confidence at that table... hate falling in love with aces and playing them poorly.

May 28, 2009, 8PM: Played 1 hour, Made $128.00 at Hard Rock
Texas Hold'em

Sat down at a short handed very aggressive table and decided real quick that these players meant business. Def no tourists sitting at the table waiting to give their money away. Played only a few hands and almost doubled up with a full house. Played the hand nicely. The guy had a straight on the flop and i hit a set so i bet 25 and he called then the river came with an A and the flop was A25 so on the flop he hit a straight with 34 in his hand. The A only helped my hand and i checked it to him and he bet 25 i raised to 50 and he went all in. I called and showed the full house. Definitely a tougher game to play. I need to read the Caros book.

May 27, 2009, 4AM: Played 2 hours, Lost $5.50 at Absolute Poker
$5.50 Buy-In Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo Tournament (14th out of 44 Players)

Before posting my first blog entry, I want to introduce myself in short.
I was born on 28th June 1974, I am a computer engineer and I work as a computer engineer in an insurance company.
I have decided to play as a pro on 21st May 2009, a week ago. I mostly played cash games upto now, but this morning I realized that the only way to earn much in poker is to play touraments. On a ring game table, you may start with $100 and you may have $100 after playing 600 hands. I have lived that :)

This is my first tournament that I have announced on chipmeup.com Nobody bought the $1 share normally :)

PL Omaha H/L $5+$0.5
No rebuys
No add-ons
Estimated player count : 40-50
Estimated total prize pool : $220
Daily tourament. The hour and id of the tourney may be changed by Absoulte Poker.

Result : 14th of 44, first 5 paid

I was started with 1500 chips (like all the others) and I have made it 2700. I was 7th-8th for a while, but then I fell down to 11th and the stake was 100/200, I had 1700 chips.
At that point I had a flush draw and low draw also on the flop. Only the first 5 was to be paid and I might not have a better flop, so I took the risk and lost. Maybe, I could finish the tourament 8th or 9th at best if I'd played tight but only the first 5 was to be paid, so I took that risk.

$20 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (1st out of 13 Players)

played well, had some no brainer hands, KK and AA at the right times, had some nice all ins when there were 5 players left 3 of which including myself even stacked that took down significant pre flop pots.  i think thats what set me up for the win.  heads up with a newbie, bossed him around then went all in with JJ and won... nice to have the high pocket pairs when it matters and not have them cracked! i did run the game terribly though, somewhat embarrassing how disorganized it was. my bad.  andrew and jeremy both played, i have zero read on either of them

May 26, 2009, 9PM: Played 1 hour, 30 minutes at M
$2 No-Limit Texas Hold'em

Quick session, tired from a 12 hour work day and probably shouldn't have been playing.  Wasn't getting many playable hands and started to loosen up too much, caught an overpair and called guy to my left coming over the top on me all in. i snuck by and took down a nice pot which funded me donking off chips for a while.  dude at seat 7 across from me was bullying the table and i let him walk over me a few times.  when i didn't know who's money i was after anymore, i knew it was time to call it a night.  i shouldn't play tired and with 1.5 beers in me.  my concentration level is totally different.

May 26, 2009, 10PM: Played 3 hours, 21 minutes, Lost $142.39 at full tilt
$0.10 Pot-Limit Omaha

started the session like total shit, which kinda lead to me trying to get back quick.  had a couple hands I felt like I had to get in with and obviously lost when I got in with the best.  last 40 I moved up a couple limits hoping to get lucky, last hand I get all in with AA85 vs KKTT flop is T T x, not much can be done about that sort of running.

as my typical online cycle goes I have many small wins finally reaching a session where I can do no right and blow it all in a huge hurry.  been down this road at least 10 other times, very frustrating.

May 26, 2009, 9PM:
Long Time No Post

Came back tonight trying to find my old posts about last year's WSOP bet I had with my friend Ryan.  I wanted to use the same format again this year but am having trouble finding it.

Anyway, it has been forever since I posted here.  I can't believe I have played almost no poker since last September.  Reading some of these old posts gets me in the mood to play again.  The competition/strategy is what I was so addicted to, not just the "gambling" side of the game.  I was crazy busy during this last school year.  I was student teaching which was awesome but left me with no time at all to play.

Now that it is summer again I am finishing three online classes to officially graduate, working at the same old summer camp, and looking for a teaching job (nearly impossible in Michigan).  Long story short, I may start playing a little bit again.  Hopefully I still have a slight idea how to play.

Hi to everyone that used to comment: deiyuo, grlg, natepringle, jaspinal and others.  Hopefully I will have some tourneys to post soon.

May 25, 2009, 8PM: Played 1 hour, 30 minutes at M
$2 No-Limit Texas Hold'em

M won her money back plus more... so she had a winning first day woo hoo.  there were a few fish at the table that we recognized right away.  was fortunate to have cards a few times before they lost all their money.  one hand i had AA, raised 20 pre flop, two called, all diamond flop... shitty, my A was not a d, i knew fishy was gonna call regardless of what i bet so I was afraid to go all in.  bet a modest 20 in case he would fold, other guy folds, fish calls... luckily no diamonds fell and i took the pot with a couple more 1/3 pot bets on the turn and the river.  i played it pretty conservative, some would argue wrong because i gave him odds to call on the flush draw, but i knew he would call whatever i put in.

May 25, 2009, 3PM: Played 4 hours at Hard Rock Hotel
$2 No-Limit Texas Hold'em

Great session... it was M's first time playing and she did pretty well too but ended up losing her stack to a donk.  oh well, it happens, just sux it was her first time, now she wants revenge! I put a nice beat on this guy when I flopped quad 7's, he bet all in when he hit his flush on the turn.  I acted very well that hand disguising, but i think he woulda called anyway. another hand i layed down AQ when 3 players went all in in front of me, there was prob almost 300 already in the pot with an AKx on the board... the pot ended up being chopped as another K hit and two other players had Ax.  I woulda ended up winning, but oh well, I think i made the correct play considering the table history.

May 24, 2009, 6PM: Played 1 hour, Made $17.00 at Full Tilt
$5 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (1st out of 9 Players)

+$500 early w/pK's vs short stack AQ. Hung around with stack ranging from 1,500 - 2,000 for quite a while.

Put a wicked bad beat on aggressive table big stack in middle rounds. He called from button, sb folded, I checked. I hit K's with AK little flop. I checked, and thought he had zip when he put in a big raise so I went AI. He called with pair of A's. Great read, juan carlos. Sucked out w/2 pair on river. Went from 4th w/1,800 to 1st w/3600.

Played well thru rest of the tourny. Another long one w/3 players deep into 250/500 blinds.
