Call me superstitous...

Not sure that there's been any real level of concern over my lack of daily entries... I was playing a shit load in October and November, but started to run cold.
At first I started to blame it on blogging, kind of like having a shirt be unlucky... so, I did the SMART thing.  No, I didn't take a break, I just stopped blogging.
Kept playing, whittled my online account down a fair bit... so once December hit, I stopped playing online except for the random day to give myself a break and concentrate on finishing school.
Fellow player on here staked me a few times at live games, and that was the only way I was really getting money for rent and random out nights.
I finally got my bachelor's in Journalism in December and have been happily unemployed since.  I've been gradually picking up the online play more, but I'm reallllly encountering a lot of variance... both in my play and the cards.
Live I was running relatively well and getting paid off on semi-decent hands, so I kept getting staked... but the last three times I've sat down have ended pretty poorly... so, kind of on the look out for something part-time to fund the poker as well as kill time until I get a "real" job.
So... basically I stopped blogging because I blamed it for me running bad.  Smart, I know.
If you'll have me back, I'll eagerly run my post count up a ridiculous amount.

January 14, 2008, 5AM: Played 2 hours, 30 minutes, Made $1,113.00 at Palms - Las Vegas
$3 No-Limit Texas Hold'em

Wow, I was really surprised to win this much in this game.
First hand up I have AJs flop two overs and nut flush and tripple up on my $200 buy-in.
Since I crippled my friend in the hand the immediate hand after he moves all in with AJ for $100, I auto call with 64 off, I figure he has two overs, I'm on a free roll, if I win, I win, if I lose I look like a maniac and give him a $100.  Win win situation in my book.
After that the table is convinced I am a maniac.  I play like a rock and come off $100 seeing flops and missing.  Then I pick up a monster, 57d, flop top pair, flush draw and gutterball.  Get paid in three spots, then immediate hand after have AA in BB with 5 limpers.  I move all in for 1K and get some sucker to call off his stack.
I'm not much of a NLH player but I do know this, if you play tight and value bet, you will get paid.

$32 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (1st out of 33 Players)

Three-way chop.  Two in a row.  Both tourneys I came to the final table under the starting chip count.  Both tourneys A/J, A/Q, K/Q and small pocket pairs went into the muck when I was raised.  Most of the time they were good folds.  Just a little discipline and luck paying off.
  Fun Stuff.

$32 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (18th out of 41 Players)

All of Ringo's 1PM tournaments now start with 5000 in chips and have 15 minute rounds.  Not too shabby.

January 14, 2008, 8PM: Played 3 hours, 38 minutes, Lost $15.50 at Full Tilt
$5.50 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (1st out of 30 Players)

This was a rebuy and addon event for the FTOPS Event #9.
3 way and I had an agressive guy on my left.  The guy on my right was more tight post and would freeze up when you called.  He aslo would lay down if you re-raised pre.  So I really wanted guy on right to take out my guy on left.
Once this happened and we were heads up I had a bit of a deficit in chips, think it was my 30K to his 60K.
I grinded my balls off.  Thought about what Nate has told me and as well what EightFive said regarding "freezing up".  I went at it with him learning his behavior and found that he may be raising a lot pre but if he missed post I could bet him off his hand.
I could not do this everytime becuase sometimes he did have a hand and would catch on.
I escaped going broke twice with great flops, one was a flush and he had K high flush draw that hit.  I put out a modest bet rather than large as when the next spade hit I would have been priced in.
Did my best, still need to work on 3 way and most especially heads up play.
Seat number two in one day, good pace.

Possible Move Up

I am considering moving up from $1-$3 tournaments to $5-$10 tournaments.  My online roll is not "technically" big enough but if I dropped down to $100 or so I think I would switch back to 1's and 2's.  I am in school right now so I am not depositing lol.  I have been losing interest a little and not always playing my best and I think it may be driven by playing so low.  I have had pretty decent success over the last 5 months or so and maybe enough to play 5s and 10s but because I loaned money to a friend who had to give it back in cash it's no longer in my account.
I have always been good about sticking to fairly strict bankroll management, but I feel that my game is good enough to at least give it a shot.  I am pretty busy this semester so my goal is to only play when I can afford to take 3 or 4 hours to play and also to make sure that I am in the right mind set to play.  Other than that I need to get past my nitty-ass self enough to be willing to drop a 100-150 before moving back down if it doesn't work out.
Anyways, hopefully the results will come and I will be able to stick to those for good.  If anyone finds this post, may all your cards be live and your pots be monsters (puke, jk).  GL

January 13, 2008, 5PM: Played 2 hours, 30 minutes, Made $20.00 at Poker Stars
$2 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (1,503rd out of 20000 Players)

Welp heres my results for my first $100,000 Guaranteed. I didn't set high expectations for this tourny but played well in my opinion. I played tight/aggressive, not trying to put myself in bad situations. There are maybe 1-2 hands I wish I could have back, but such is life.
At best I was around 250 of 6000 or so players remaining. My image was holding up as players were not staying in hands long as I had shown down premium cards any hand I was involved in.
I lost about 80% of my stack on a horrible bad beat. I'm on the BB with about 3 callers behind me preflop. I'm holding JJ and since I find JJ such a hard hand to play post-flop, I shove. I figure I would at best get 1 caller but would be happy to have just taken the blinds and antes. My plan appears to be working to perfection as 2 people fold but 1 calls.
This donk turns over QJo. I'm feeling like I'm sitting pretty praying for no miracle Q's on board. The flop comes out:
10 9 8
Flopped the nut straight and I was pretty much done regardless of the turn and the river. After that hand I didn't last too much longer As anything I had was insta-shove. The blinds accelerated and pretty much anyone was going to call me. I pushed with 33 in a multiway pot praying to get lucky but to no avail.
Better luck next time I suupose..

Poker Forums (i.e. blogs)

I think it might be a good idea to have poker forums on OPL. It would make it easier for those within specific regions for example to learn more about players, thoughts, playing styles, comments and so forth as those within close proximity to one another. It would also boost the ability to plan and organize private home games with those in the same area... Just a thought.
