DAMMIT wow i played like a champion i know i did. I got rivered 3 times. i know i should of quit but i didn't play that long, but i thought i could grind it all back. i was really unlucky online and i think i was playing NL cash game that was a LITTLE TO HIGH FOR ME. The last time i THOGHT i had a hand i floped a full house nines full. me 9h9d flop 9s7s7c. i bet 3 dollars and he pushes me all in wow.....i call and he has 8s 10s of spades. his opened flush draw hits a J of SPADES on the turn..str8 flush...lol.  dammit and i paid of the refill THANK U then i lost it all today lol wow. oh well back to play chips for a while i guess.....

SOUR TASTE IN MY MOUTH!!!! I played a great tournament and steadily chipped up after I lost the very first hand of the tournament with KK. I made what I think was the right laydown with 88 on a flop of 456 and just played very smart. The final table was full of maniacs so I trapped them with my big hands and then attacked all the weak tight players.
 
Going into heads-up play, maniac had 250,000 and I had 150,000. I steadily just played small-ball, letting him make mistakes and me capitalizing. After a bit of a grind I took the chiplead. Then came this hand which basically shattered my chances to win the tournament:

Holding my own and I don't get this move.. K6 off limps late, I raise, pretty much all in pre with KQ, he decided to just move all in now pre.. I call and I'm like, "what?".. oh then he hits a 6 and I'm like, "cute".
 
Not sure where these guys come from or what possesses them to make such rediculious plays.. frustrating for now but I can rationalize the bad play as they are the "dead money".

Slump

My slump continues.
 
Haven't landed in the money since early this week and it really gets to you after awhile. I've identified problem areas and am working towards correcting them.
 
The biggest issue I noticed was that I would lose my patience really early for some reason and would begin playing marginal hole cards which would lead to bad calls and thus, early eliminations.

February 9, 2008, 5AM: Played 5 hours, 10 minutes, Made $1,290.64 at Full Tilt
$26 Buy-In Pot-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (1st out of 211 Players)

Didn't want to play anymore tonight but Rob thought we should play this tournament while we messed around and worked on the site a bit.  Funny how when I am playing when I don't "want to" I end up doing well.
 
Just grinded the first 150 players, not really paying 100% attention and just playing my hands straight foreward.
 
Once close to the money started paying attention and taking notes.
 
One key hand that would have busted me with about 17 players left was JJ, early position raises a bit more than min, agro boy is on my left and loves to jump into these types of pots to float.. I get a bad feeling and just let it go and wait.  He re-raises and early goes all in.. although ahead with JJ, one had KQ and the other AK, they both improve and I would have gone bust.
 
Once down to the final table I just carefully picked my spots as agro boy was on my left.  Eventually got him heads up with a chip lead, he doubled with the old 84 suited when he flopped a gutshot and flush draw, made a pair of 8's to beat my 6s.  Back to the grind from behind.
 
I thought a lot about Nate and EightFives advice, "don't freeze up" and "be more aggressive".  Once I turned it on a bit and didn't let HIM have full control he broke down.  It enabled me to understand that when he min bet.. he had shit and when he checked to make a moderate bet as he either had nothing, most of the time, or was trapping, very rarely.
 
Once I figured this out he was toast, I just kept the pressure on until the end.
 
Thank you both for the help, my heads up play has improved dramatically and it is critical as the bulk of the money is made there.

Full Tilt = Full Rigged?

I've played my share of internet poker with good results in the long run. I've been playing some sit and go tourneys lately and I'm starting to notice some very odd "play".
 
I realize there are players far superior and far worse than me online, but these guys are cold calling with 94 off to make runner runner two pair to snap off aces and stuff. It doesn't take much of a player to figure out 94 off on the KQ2 rainbow flop doesn’t have much chance of dragging the pot on the river. You have no draw except runner runner two pair/trips. How are these guys consistently winning with such odd hands?
 
Now the 94 guy I was observing doesn't play every pot. As a matter of fact, the only pots I watched him play were ones he/she stayed to the river with and rolled over the winner. Everyone has heard the stories about hackers taking advantage on the internet poker. How far off are these "outlandish" stories?
 
Now internet security measures have classically been described as "reactive" since these companies are waiting to catch hackers breaking the rules and then fix the problem after the damage is done. Are there just too many of these "hackers and crackers" out there now to keep up with? Has internet poker become completely venerable to the average 14 year old fat white kid sitting in his parents' basement? Whats the story? Where are the articles talking about how far internet poker security has come in the last year?

February 5, 2008, 3AM: Played 12 hours, 30 minutes, Made $1,038.00 at Venitian - Las Vegas
$340 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (10th out of 590 Players)

I didn't even want to play this tournament but Jimmy wanted me to play for him since he could not make it.  So I was his horse in the event.
 
Day 1:
 
Was focused from the start.  The alternates line was 150 deep, I ended up being 67th since I new people in line and merged with them.  45 minutes after the start I was seated.  I think moving into an established game is better for me since everyone has settled down and is playing their "normal" game.  New games/tournaments people are sharp and tighter giving me a false impression of their true playing style.
 
To make it to the top 10 from 11-40th I had to make a lot of moves, I mean a lot.  My stack and the blind increases with tightness of the table made blind stealing attractive and effective.  I would just pick the players blinds I wanted to steal and raise 2-3x the BB to nab it up.  Sometimes I would not look at my hand as doing so could deter me from making the play and possibly give off that I was weak.
 
When down to 14 playes it was all about moving all in since I was so short.  No one would would make margin calls so I never could double up with a real hand. 
 
I ended day one with 101K in chips only.  The 12 hours of the 1st day I never had one all-in coin flip and only had 2 all in calls.  One with AA vs AQ calling and the other with T3 stealing vs A7 BB who I outran.
 
I played like a champ all day and had been grinding my balls off.  No mistakes.. played perfectly!
 
Day 2:
 
1st place is $43K, 10th place is $1800 9th place is $3300. I'm sitting 9th in chips with only 101K in chips, total chips in play is 3.3 mil. 
 
We will play down to 9 players then combine for the final table.  We all thought it would be one table of 10 but one player objected to the merger and as stated in the rules, final table is 9 handed.  So, the other table has a mountain of chips and no short stacks.  I can't wait them out to make it.  My 5 handed table, I'm sitting in the SB to start with blinds of 10/20K and a 4K ante.  Lady on my left has 160K, next to her old man has 200K, next to him is agro pro boy who has about 300K, next to him(on my right, is Betty) who has 85K.
 
Since Betty and I ended day one as the short stacks and she was so concerned about going out 10th, as the pay between 10th and 9th is so great(1500 difference).  I approched her with a save of $500. Meaning if either of us went out tenth, the player that did not go out 10th would give the other player $500, this way we can both afford to take more risks and not play for 9th.
 
1st hand I'm in BB and UTG old man goes in and doubles up the BB asian tight girl who has JJ.  He is crippled and has less chips than anyone now.. this is looking good.
 
Next hand, my button, Betty picks up the blinds.
 
Next hand, Agro boy gets a walk in the BB.  This *could have* been a blind for me to steal but with the short stack in the SB with 40% of his chips in the pot I assumed he would go all in.
 
Next hand Agro SB and Betty BB I am under the gun with A4s.  Asian gal telgraphs fold (like she had been doing ALL tournament) all in boy now has less than one BB and agro boy in SB hasn't looked yet.  This is where I have to make a critical decision that seems easy but is not.  I have way to much information on the hand, asion fold, old man folding to money higher, Betty BB does not want to bust me either or go bust herself so unless has monster will muck and SB is wild card.  My stack at this point is now only 71K, if I raise and win I can one more round of chips.  If I raise and lose.. well I'm out.  If I fold then I will be in BB next and dump another 24K when agro boy steals it like he always does, dropping me to 47K.  Then in the SB with a stack of 33K (10K of it in the SB) If I am lucky enough to have everyone fold then I will only be able to raise the BB tight lady only 23K more.. she most likely will call. 
 
My only chance of survival, if I fold this A4s UTG, is if next hand no one steals my blind and I get a walk or if I pick up a hand in the BB and defend.  I weigh the chances of that happening vs the chances of the SB or BB waking up with a better hand than A4 now.  I decide the A4 is the play is the better of the two options and shove.  They all fold to the BB, Betty, my $500 save partner, and she thinks for a quite awhile and calls with AJ.  I don't improve and I'm toast, out 10th.  She later tells me if it was anyone else she calls in a heatbeat, but the fact that she likes me and it will cost herself $500 to bust me (since short stack boy now only has 15K) it was very hard decision.
 
Although I was frustrated to get so close to a "big" money I was very happy with my play.  Something extremely valuable I learned and will apply next LIVE tournament is building a stack from 10-18 players so I can anticipate the blinds during final table play.  I did a bit of this during this tournament but not not enough.  Since 18th pays the same as 10th, why wait around for a real hand? So I can squeak into 9th?
 
All in all, good day.
 
BTW, short stack boy somehow managed to win 5 all-ins and get 6th, Betty made 5th, and agro boy 3rd.  The kid that was next to me during most of the day that would never make a deal(they wanted to chop it 14 ways at one point for like 8K each or soemthing and he was the only objecter) ended up winning it!
