$5 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (210th out of 300 Players)

$5 rebuy tourney .... played fast!

March 31, 2007, 12PM: Played 4 hours at Edgewater
$270 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (41st out of 80 Players)

Played very well up to the last 30 mins .....

stack: 25,000.  Blinds 300-600.  Button (14,000) raises to 2,200.  I'm BB with A,J diamonds.  I call it.  (Mistake #1).Flop comes: A,Q,3.  I check, he bets out 3,000.  I call (Mistake #2).  Turn comes 4.  I check, he pushes all in for about 10,000.  I call AGAIN ! Wtf .... NOW ??? (Mistake #3) How can I call off all my chips with A,J ??!!!! Cmon ... this is a VERY weak play.  You beat A, Rags .... That is it!!!!!

VEry dissapointing ... In addition , I did a 'Instant Call' He showed A,K.  What did you think he had????

Steps I could have made to AVOID this situation: At the very leaast ..... THINK before calling off ALL your chips.

Worked so hard for all this chips to give it to some stupid guy who doesnt deserve it.  (Although this is same player that played his A,9 Suited very hard ... calling a big reraise to suck out on someone .... STILL you have to slow down and give credit even to looser players.

NO POINT at all playing A,J out of position .... no Value! Not even in position with multiway pot.  Head up A,J = Fukin Garbage!!

Now: 10,600 chips left, blinds 400-800.  I limp with A,9 clubs.  Button raises to 2,200.  I Reraise all in ???!!! He calls me wiht A,K.  I exit the tourney from:

Giving up hope, not having discipline to 'grind out', hoping to get lucky .... These too are your Weakness and your 'leaks' in Tourney play. This was very dissapointing for me.

Add another notch to A,J hands that knocked me out of Tourney.  3xs now.  I really hope this one will etch in my brain as a Lesson and that I can have to capacity to learn and Never EVER do such a stupid move.

YOu are MUCH better than this and can wait out play solid patient poker.

March 30, 2007, 11PM: Played 2 hours at UB
$120 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (24th out of 176 Players)

Played well this tourney ...

Exit Hand:
A,K suited vs A,9 off chips went in preflop.  Opp with 8000 bets 2200 with 300-600 blinds.  I'm in the small blind with A,K suited.  I push him in for all his chips.  He calls ... argh 9 on turn.  I'm down to 3000 chips left.  Lost a 16000 pot on dominated cards.

Patient ... have to be able to weather the storm to be a good player.

March 30, 2007, 10PM: Played 1 hour at UB
$240 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (63rd out of 85 Players)

Not meant to be for this tourney ... QQ vs KK.  Top 2 vs Opp hitting 4 outer for gutshot on River.

Sigh ... Look @ big picture.  Stay focus and move on.  Things even out in long run.

March 28, 2007, 4PM: Played 3 hours at River Rock
$200 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (59th out of 176 Players)

Super Satelite to Johnny Chan.

Played well ... Ok Stucture.

Blinds 300-600, sitting at 4900 in chips.  Mid position.  I check with A,A hoping to trap a blind stealer ... SB calls, BB with 4800 Pushes all in.  I call.  He flips A,10.

Board comes: K,Q,3 .  Yes ... the horrid J comes on turn. Then blank. Got outdrawn ..... I'm deflated.  But ... looking at the big picture, what I wanted to happen, happened.  Very happy with decisions I made this tourney.  Have to constantly remind myself ... Never play results oriented poker.

What I would do diffently this tourney:

Should have extracted a little better with my K,J ... hitting straight on turn and having guy Min Raised me.  Although there was 2 spades out there and he was a Ultra aggressive opp. I still probably should have Min raised him back and not been too afraid of spade coming.  After all, that is what you would want if he flipped over his cards face up ...... On 2nd thought, with 3,000 left at that point with a pot of: 300+400+700=1400.  I should have made it 1500 more to him.  If he calls, Great! If he fold, its OK.  If he calls and hits a Spade, Fine also ...... as you are a HUGE favourite.  Somehow played a little 'conservative'.  Safe but too safe ....

Reraise next time ... back to basic.

March 26, 2007, 8PM: Played 5 hours at UB
$120 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (4th out of 166 Players)

4th/166 ..

Key hand loss: As chip leader with 135,000.  blinds 2,000-4,000.  Im in BB.  Utg raises to 8,000.  folds around.  I call with Kd, 8d.  Flop comes Ad,Ac,7d.  I check he bets out 12,000.  I call.  Next card comes 4h.  I check, he bets out 12,000.  I call.  Next card comes 10d.  I make my flush.  I check and he bets 30,000.  I call.  He's got A,10 for full house.  What kind of sick card is this to come ... should have been VERY careful chasing flush when pair on board esp when hes TELLING you he's got Ace. Bad River.  Lost half stack down to $65,00 after that stack.  Became a mortal after HUGE chip leader.

Gotta refine final table play.  Selective aggression and knowing opponents style and habits so important at this stage.  post flop poker becomes a one shot decision play.  When blinds are so big ... calling a preflop raise usually sets you in anywhere from 15-20% of stack depending on chip level.  This means a lot of hands will be all in after post flop .... otherwise severely wounded.  Premium hands must be played or at least what you feel is best when betting.  Right timing and knowing who to steal and maybe even resteal of blinds is risky but same time good payoff.  High risk but High Reward situation.

Played well today ... but, dont let yourself get comfortable with 'making in the $' Fools think like this.
Play to win ..... back to drawing board.

Pts to refine for next tourney: Final table play to hone down and slow it down some more ..... more time on decisions, and also more selective aggression.

Need to also be more aware of opp tendency, style, capabilities and also betting patterns.

phew ... good comeback for weekend after big fall.

Be Thankful ....

March 26, 2007, 1PM: Played 10 hours at River Rock
$6 No-Limit Texas Hold'em

Very Important Session today .... had a big lost.  But along with some close decision .... had some very bad beats and unlucky of events.

Positive:
Had 75% Correct reads and made some big calls facing big bets.

Hand 1: A,Q, on SB.  4 limpers, and button makes it to 25.  I call it. FOlds around.  Flop come 8c,9c,3s.  I check he bets 40.  I call.  Next card 8d.  I check, he pushes all in for.  $220 I think hand throuhg and called believing I'm good with my A,q.  I flips over A,10.  Next card comes a 9 to have my Q kicker counterfeited.  Sigh, big call followed through with read for split pot.

Hand 2: 4 limpers, I raised to $40 on button with A,A.  I get utg calling.  Flop comes Q,9,7.  He checks, I bet $100.  He calls.  Next card 4.  He pushed in for $150 remained, I call.  He flips over Q,9 for 2 pair ...... I cannot believe he valued he Q,9 preflop for $40.  Fukin hurts ... on undesireable results, but .... correct play.

Hand 3: 4 limpers, I'm on BB with A,K.  I raise it to $25.  3 more callers come in.  Maniac limper in late position pushes for $430 ..... I believe he doesn't have a pair and at most has 2 big cards.  Beliving this, I have him dominated.  I call.  Flop comes Q,3,5.  He hits his Q,3 suited for 2 pair.  Can you believe this?? Its just a tough day for flops today and stars are not aligned.  Gamblers can get lucky too.

$ hand: K,K. on button.  Opponents raised to $40, get one caller.  I reraise to $140.  Both calls.  Flop comes K,Q,4. all diamonds.  1st guy bets $100, next guy calls, I push in for $400.  last guy calls.  turn comes 4.  I close my deal.  I belive he flopped nut flush.  Phew good turn.

$ hand: Called $35 with A,J early position.  3 way action.  Flop comes A,3,2.  I check, next guy bets out $100.  Crazy guy raises to $500.  I think on where I stand in the hand.  After going through thinking, I finalize Im good, pushed for $750 all in.  Last guy calls with some crazy mid pair with flush draw.  Thank God, he missed and my read was correct.

Flaw in this hand: Although you went with your read .... its a huge risk IF you are wrong, or ... he gets lucky on you.  Try to avoid this sort of big swing poker!! Play small controlled pot, and select pots you wanna jam with.  For eg, KK with K flop is much better decision.

Opportunities to have left with a Positive session:
After pulling out for 2nd time, you were fortunate to be up about 6.... This was a GREAT time to have count blessings and take a win.  A huge win be that ... as you came from behind.  Also time being a factor, and close to 9 pm on Sunday night .... wtf are you staying for??? Greed kept you at this table this time.  Be thankful and leave. Chalk up a win, moral and help out bankroll.

A reminder to self that ... in order to be successful: You have to be discipline, and Smart in not just poker aspects of decision making BUT, also the fact that (1) its late sunday night, you got to work next day.  (2) you are actually up from being 2 buy ins behind (3) Being up after clawin back is a HUGE victory.  Moral and Discipline wise.

Downfall for you this session: Greed mostly and not knowing when to leave.  Take this as a HUGE Lesson and do not let history repeat itself.  You are better than this.
