$1/2 Texas Hold'em
Another great trip to Vegas. Televised poker has brought so many new players into the game that its much easier to win than in old-Vegas, where the competition was predominantly "locals" and "regulars" who rode herd over the tourists. 1/2 No Limit was the game of choice at Bellagio, Mirage, Venetian and Excalibur, where I semi-rocked my way to five out of six winning sessions. Best moment occured at Bellagio, where a player straddled, then raised to $12 with A-K. I flat called with K-K and two more players limped-in behind. The flop was 3-7-K, rainbow, and the straddler bet another $12. I made it $36 and the two limpers tossed their hands. The straddler put me all-in for $226 and I beat him into the pot. The turn & river were inconsequential and I took down my best pot of the week. I probably wouldn't have slow-played the K's if the guy hadn't straddled, but I smelled the possibility of exactly what transpired. In this case, the straddle tipped his intentions.

$3/6 Omaha Hi-Lo
Is anyone else as impressed with the difference in this previously-sleepy Highway 29 cardroom since new owners took over in July '06? Thank you! Constant action... everything from a 24/7 No Limit game that rocks to an assortment of Hold'em and Omaha Hi-Lo games played at 3/6. Assorted tournaments and Jackpots round-out the menu. Anyone who played here in the 80's, 90's or early 2000's is in for a HUGE surprise. Weekends, and some weeknights, every poker table is going and they're even spreading an occasional Hold'em game on a vacant California Blackjack layout (cramped, but better than an eight-person waiting list when you're anxious to get into action). Tried the 3/6 Hold'em on my birthday and ran $100 into $200 before jumping to the Omaha Hi-Lo. Not my best game (you may see in future posts!) but I held some decent cards at the right time and ended up $287 to the good for the evening. Happy Birthday...
