September 18, 1996, 12AM: Played 3 hours, Lost $60.00 at Napa Valley Casino
$2/4 Texas Hold'em

Let one slip away today at the bonus.  Was cruising for the first hour to an even hundred, then disaster struck in the form of three 3's getting beat by a wheel.  Big pot.  Would've put me over the top and in command.  All downhill from there.  I raised pocket kings before the flop and a pair of aces hit.  Capped it on the flop, but then the guy I bet with dropped on the turn.  Bet the rest of the way, and someone with A4 (no kicker) called all the way.  Went all the way to the table, then won a couple of quick hands to get to 42.  Considered leaving, but didn't.  A lot of middle hands I threw away were flopping winners.  I think I played well, though.  I had some good hands beat today.

September 11, 1996, 12AM: Played 4 hours, Made $75.00 at Napa Valley Casino
$2/4 Texas Hold'em

Got a nice win this morning on the bonus.  95 dollars cash.  It could have been better, though.  I had 170 in front of me on the high point and lost when the case queen had a better kicker than my set of queens with a 5.  That hand got capped on the turn.  I lost 25 on it.  I could have walked away then with 165, but I dropped another 30 before I got away.  I went all the way down to the table before I finally hit my rush, then I got pretty hot and shot right up.  I played position like a pro.  I was pretty choosy about only taking chances when I was in position and could make it worth my while if I did get made.  This is a fun game.  I do have to work on being less timid when going low.

September 4, 1996, 12AM: Played 3 hours, Lost $60.00 at Napa Valley Casino
$2/4 Texas Hold'em

I got the bonus and lost quick this morning.  Pretty poor play on my part, probably played too many second-rate hands out of position (K10, Q10, etc.).  Had pocket Aces beat by a guy who flopped 3 8's.  When the pair hit the board on the flop, I should have raised to see where he stood.  Spaced out one hand and had top air beat by a one card straight.  Pay Attention! My last hand was a nice 3456 open-ended straight flush draw that hit nothing on the river.  The biggest thing I gotta learn right now is it's not the number of hands you win that determine the outcome of the night, it's the number of chips.  Play position, Rob.
