August 30, 2006, 11PM: Played 45 minutes, Made $9.00 at Party Poker
$10 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (3rd out of 10 Players)
Played well all tournament long (despite real bad connection problems which I think I solved by changing the broadcast channel on my router -- too many wireless people nearby). But then got real dumb 4-handed and crippled myself. Then got real lucky to make third.

$10 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (2nd out of 10 Players)
Played absolutely terrible when two-handed. I think I was tired and wanted it to be over. I was getting crazy good cards this tourney. AA (twice), AKs, AQ a couple times, JJ... Not that they were all my big pots, but it helps to get good starting cards from time to time.
I realize heads up only lasted two hands, but I was playing against the table maniac. No idea why I started shoving chips to bluff him out when I knew he would just call. I hate the manics, because first you have to wait for cards against them, then hope they don't draw out on you. It's especially difficult (for me) to decide what to play against them heads-up (pre-flop).

Lost on set over set -- smelled a rat. Thought my stack was good. Could not fold the river, but COULD have folded the turn. Jesse says no, but it would have felt really good to fold a set and then get in the money in that tourney. It was not going to last much longer -- lots of aggro action there.

Played pretty solid. Not much you can do when there's a mniac at the table and he has chip lead -- no blind stealing, no nothing. Mis-played a 45d early on...then lost connection for like 5 minutes after going three-handed. I was short stack and managed to survive being cut off despite only having 3x big blind. Of course, I only had 1.5x by the time I get it back up, and went out next hand.

The lesson I'm learning is that the hard I try the better I(maybe) do. Problem is, I have to try a LOT harder to be a winner at this.

Bubble boy. Played OK. Could have been more aggressive. When people are watching me I have a tendency to get passive and second-guess going after pots.

Tried to play really close attention, and felt like I was starting to understand player habits. Next step is to put that understanding to use. Second hand three-handed, I pick up AJ on the button and raise to 1000 (blinds 2-400). Big blind calls, flop is 79J, two hearts. I check, turn is 2, big blind bets 1k I raise to 3k, big blind calls, river makes flush, bb goes all in. I did not put him on hearts, so I call. He rolls over J2, made 2 pair on turn. Next hand I pick up A6 and go all in for 1400 vs A7.

August 16, 2006, 4AM: Played 2 hours, 30 minutes, Lost $139.00 at Garden City
$3/6 Texas Hold'em
JJ preflop -- did not three-bet it, then did not fold on flop of QKX.
AQ preflop, board is Q88 middle position (three players). Check, bet, guy on my left raises. Turn is 6, check, check, bet, call, call. River is 6, bet, fold, fold -- guy turns over A7. Should have called.
AQ preflop, board is 663, turn 9, river 3 -- called all the way down -- 5-way action on the flop. Should have mucked in there somewhere.
TT preflop capped, board is 664, bet and raise from the field. Turn is 9, bet and raised from the field, river is 4, I call it and see two boats. Fell in love because pot was so big. I mis-calculated pot odds. I thought you did it only as (money i owe / size of pot), when it is actually (money i am likely to put in / size of pot). That is a good lesson.
Last hand: TT preflop, board is 45T, turn is 3, river is 9. I manage to lay down on the river after check and raise to me. This was very easy, but sad, as the pot was huge (capped on turn when two people made straights). Again: if I was counting on paying $24 on turn, I should have known enough to fold.
Basically played badly, as usual, as even the large pots that kept me afloat during the night were suck-outs in my favor (spiked aces a couple times).
