January 13, 2008, 7PM: Played 2 hours, Lost $24.30 at Poker Stars
$0.25/0.50 Texas Hold'em

This was earlier in the day before my $100,000 Tourny. Made some loose calls early, got myself into trouble early and found myself down double this amount. Was able to recoup towards the end but it was time to start my big game. Hopefully can make up for it tomorrow.

Don't think anyone reads my blogs but would love some help on this hand with some scenario's I have drawn out!
 
Does anyone else find this hand difficult to play or is it just me? I am finding this hand more and more unreliable for myself. Lately I have been limping and check/folding if I don't hit the flop. I would love others opinions on how they play it in a couple different scenario's.
 
For all these questions, you are on the button.
 
1.Preflop - everyone folds to you; call, or raise, and why?
 
2.Preflop - 4 callers ahead of you; call, or raise, and why?
 
3.Preflop - 1 player places a 3-5x BB bet ahead of you and everyone folds to you; call, or raise, and why?
 
These next questions assume you place the standard raise preflop while holding AK
 
4.Post Flop - 3 callers and the flop comes out as blanks for you. Everyone checks to you; check, raise, and why?
 
5.Post Flop - 3 callers and the flop comes out as blanks for you. 1 player bets and 2 others call right behind him; call, raise, or fold, and why?
 
And for the last scenario, lets assume you (on the button) place a preflop raise, and is called by the BB so you are heads-up in the hand.
 
6.Post Flop - flop comes out rags and the BB places a bet; call, raise, or fold? And why?
 
7.Post Flop - flop comes out rags and BB checks and calls your bet on the flop. Turn comes another rag. BB checks. Do you bet again? or simply check behind him hoping to get lucky on 5th street? and why?

January 13, 2008, 5PM: Played 2 hours, 30 minutes, Made $20.00 at Poker Stars
$2 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (1,503rd out of 20000 Players)

Welp heres my results for my first $100,000 Guaranteed. I didn't set high expectations for this tourny but played well in my opinion. I played tight/aggressive, not trying to put myself in bad situations. There are maybe 1-2 hands I wish I could have back, but such is life.
 
At best I was around 250 of 6000 or so players remaining. My image was holding up as players were not staying in hands long as I had shown down premium cards any hand I was involved in.
 
I lost about 80% of my stack on a horrible bad beat. I'm on the BB with about 3 callers behind me preflop. I'm holding JJ and since I find JJ such a hard hand to play post-flop, I shove. I figure I would at best get 1 caller but would be happy to have just taken the blinds and antes. My plan appears to be working to perfection as 2 people fold but 1 calls.
 
This donk turns over QJo. I'm feeling like I'm sitting pretty praying for no miracle Q's on board. The flop comes out:

Flopped the nut straight and I was pretty much done regardless of the turn and the river. After that hand I didn't last too much longer As anything I had was insta-shove. The blinds accelerated and pretty much anyone was going to call me. I pushed with 33 in a multiway pot praying to get lucky but to no avail.

January 12, 2008, 4PM: Played 3 hours, 10 minutes, Lost $16.50 at Poker Stars
$0.25/0.50 Texas Hold'em

Thanks to Sydney (my dog) I came out a loser in this grind session. See, I had my laptop sitting with me on the couch and low and behold, JJ appears in my hole cards. I give the standard preflop raise and get 1 caller.

Overcard, trouble. I give a continuation bet to see where i stand, about 1/4 the pot and am quickly called. Turn comes up another rag, so I give the pot 1 last shot. The villian promptly raises my bet. Knowing my Jacks are most likely beat I prepare to lay them down...until my krazy chihuahua jumps on my lap, while also hittin the RAISE button at the same time. Thankly for her, I had company and decided not to throw my lapdog into a door frame. Villian promptly calls. river comes another rag, I check, he bets, and feeling pot committed by this point make the call knowing I'm in 2nd place.
 
I lose about 85% of my original buy-in on that 1 hand. The rest of the time I am just trying to break even but eventually go card dead for what feels like hours and just chuck it up as a loss.

January 12, 2008, 10AM: Played 2 hours, Made $11.00 at Poker Stars
$2 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (37th out of 280 Players)

This was a satellite to the $100,000 guarantee tomorrow. First time I've ever placed in a satellite! I made it by the skin of my team nonetheless!
 
At the first break I was 2nd in chip lead with about 75 people left to play, top 37 got the token. I had around 10,000 in chips and pretty much was on cruise control folding anything but a premium hand. Unfortunately for me, the blinds seems to SKYROCKET up, quickly making me short stacked towards the end of the game. I got 1 lucky double-up with just high card, folded every hand until I was walking away with a free shot at $100,000 ;]

January 12, 2008, 12AM: Played 3 hours, 20 minutes, Made $56.50 at Poker Stars
$0.25/0.50 Texas Hold'em

Quite a wild ride this grind out session went for me. Almost 20 minutes into the game I had almost doubled my original investment. About half an hour later, I lose about 80% to a 2-outer. I work myself back up to even, and then to almost doubling again. Then...the reckless loose calling starts, and I ride back down to about half my original buy-in. I finally get my head on straight, and work my way up to almost tripling my original buy-in and call it a night :D
