Full Tilt Poker

So, after a few bad showings last week I stepped back from poker for a few days to think about my game. For a long time I played really loose at the tables (read: badly) then I started to tighten up and noticed some good returns. This strategy served me well in tournaments for awhile but I was finding that there were far too many nights where I just wouldn't get any good hole cards which would lead to me getting blinded out or playing too loose when I finally did get to play. Just gotta start finding that happy medium when I'm in tournaments I guess.

After a lot of research, I have finally decided that I am going to do some playing over at Full Tilt Poker. From what every single review I've read says, the competition there is a little tougher which I think will be a great way to improve my game. If I'm playing against good/tight players constantly plus playing my regular tournaments and S&G's plus watching pros play (always wanted to watch Mike Matusow play... don't particularly care for his style of play, but he's still slightly entertaining) I should see at least SOME improvement in my own play.

right?

No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (2,310th out of 5000 Players)

Tonight's tournament was just a bust for me. I wasn't getting any hole cards that I could work with and was getting blinded out early. I lost about $500 of my starting $1500 when I had to bluff to cover up not hitting the flop with my KJ.

Some more folds later I come across KJ again in early position with 30/60 blinds. One folds, one calls and one raises to $180. I'm already feeling pressure so I called the raise. Flop comes down 7c 9c Jh. Early position raised and then seat behind me re-raises to $1200. At this point I've let myself get more than a little annoyed at my cards so I called and went all in. Turn was 4c and then the river came... Qh.

Three hands were shown... my jacks, pocket AA and the winning hand: QJ.

The winner did comment that he couldn't fault my call and that it was just a bad river. I would've lost anyway even if that river hadn't come because the seat behind me slow played his pocket AA like no one's business.

Oh well, not every night can be good.

stupid laptop

Ok so first lesson learned from last night was that if you plan on blogging about your tourney, you should probably make very simple notes about which hands are event worthy since I tried to go back today and update my previous entry with key hands only to fail miserably when I couldn't make out my notes on my work computer.

Still haven't decided which poker room I'm going to migrate to next but money is tight (ironically) so there's no rush. Thanks to people who have given me their tips. It's all being taken into consideration.

Computer issues kept me out of the tournaments tonight but there's always tomorrow.

No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (70th out of 5000 Players)

Starting to get tired of Absolute Poker, will likely be switching to another poker site soon. I would say pokerstars but don't care for them much either. Might be empire poker but I wanna look around first.

I'm finding that my poker playing is better on weekends for some reason. Wonder why.

Ended up going out in 70th place tonight, will post some of the more pivotal hands tomorrow because I am beyond tired at the moment but I will say that if nothing else, I'm proud of myself because I took some serious hits but kept coming back until the very end with I called an All In with A9 and lost to QQ. I had just taken a couple of bad beats though so I think it was the right call.

No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (2,031st out of 5000 Players)

First tournament of the new year. Didn't really feel it though, went all in with KA and ended up losing to pocket 9's I think.

I'll be updating this journal as often as possible with real money and tournament finals as I have some very lofty goals for the rest of the year regarding my poker playing.
