July 8, 2007, 5PM: Played 1 hour, 44 minutes, Made $95.13 at Poker Stars
$215 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (698th out of 6821 Players)
Grind and grind... (Jimmy and I went partners)
Played the first bit of the tourney very loose. Called and limped a ton pre-flop and did not raise, even with large hands.
Waited to see a favorable flop and out play them, this doubled my stack.
Once the blinds got higher had to play real tournament poker.
Close to the money I had a huge stack on my left. He would play big stack poker well, if someone raised pre he would move on them and make them commit or go broke like <10 places from the money.
So I pick up 77 with one player left to go, all other tables are stopped as I let my time bank of 90 seconds drain. The big stack warns me he will move all in.
SO fuck him, I move in first, he calls with A8 off and I double up and make it into the money. Wasn't going to give up my last chance to aquire chips and the blinds because of this guy.
So once in the money I manage to run my stack up to 80K. Average is not about 90K and right before the money I was at 20K.
So here is how I go out as usuall...
I pick up KK in the BB, my stack is 80K, blins are 2.5-5K, UTG doubls it to 12K (and 35K remaining), folds to the button who makes it 30K(and 60K remaining). I have 80K, this raise from the button totally smells like a wired pair, I only have to fear AA, I doubt he has it and I have UTG covered. I don't want the UTG player to call and have to fade two hands, I move all in. UTG mucks and Button re-raiser thinks, he has to call 50K and there is 80K dead in the pot already, so really he has to risk 50K to win 130K, if he loses he is left with 10K. I can't imagine him thinking I have anything less than KK or AA to make that move there. He calls and I go broke...
There is no way I can play that hand and win. He will call the all in pre and since he spiked a Queen he will obviously call there too. I can't fold either if I see the flop of Qxx.
I avoiding moving all in most all of the tournament, I think I only did it 3 times.
I will win one of these soon. Just need that one major pivot hand to hold.
