Low-limit poker vs. Montana NL poker
This seems to be one of the major issues with Montana and poker as it evolves over time.
I listen (mind you I'm usually working or trapped) to these poeple from all different skill levels/experiences of all types of poker games and I can't decide which game is better to play in terms of making the most money: low-limit hold'em or montana NL hold'em ($300 pot cap, if the pot is made before the river, all players just roll thier hands over and they bring the board and whoever wins wins).
The big detail I keep hearing is protection of "big hands". Now most of the debate I'm exsposed to is over "why is 36 off cracking my black aces EVERY TIME?" Now it's obvious to me how these low-limit games work. You get 9 players at a table with maybe one or two of them who have a clue, and then the majority of the table is made up of compulsive bad gamblers/donkeys just having fun. I've logged lots of hours playing that game and have seen very consistent positive results.
Now lets look at the NL game. You get a few different people at the table. Your 'entertainment' players typically stay away from this game since they don't want to lose thier bankroll on one hand. However, the remaining players at the table are still bad compulsive gamblers with a dose of agression. I don't see a significant difference in how bad or good this game is played. I still watch the black aces get stomped by A-wheel, 36 off, K9 suited.
So which game is really more profitable? Yes you can go on the heat and win $1000 at the NL table where you will never do that in one session in a 3-6 holdem game. But you're also not going to lose $150 on one hand when you make all the right desicions and the donkey calls and cracks you anyways. Also, you can read most any poker book and they all have some comment on how much a 'successful' player should be winning in a paticular limit poker game, but I've never read anything about how much you should expect to win at a NL cash game table.
PS: if you see me in real life and feel the need to tell me about your "bad beats", first, remove your head from your ass and have a nice piping hot cup of shut the fuck up. Log your bad beats, dont force people to listen to them.

If you can get all nine players to put in $33.oo and make the pot before the flop you don't need to out play anyone. Gamble! At least thats how I play Mt No-Limit(a.k.a 2-150 spread).

Here is my 2 cents. I used to play quite a bit of limit hold em and I did very well for a long period of time then I moved to PL hold em and then NL. I can no longer play limit so save my life and i continue to run well in NL. Don't think I would even do well in PL anymore. As far as " donkey calls" I always remind myself that if you were able to see the cards face up pre flop you would always want that call and in the long run the donkey's will pay your bills.....
I think the biffest difference in the games is the amount of patience you have to have to play NL. Good luck.

Marcus,
I understand your decision, we all face decisions like this in life not just poker.
It basically boils down to this simple fact.
What DO YOU perform best at?
It is that simple, an example with myself. I love and perform well at limit omaha hi/lo live. Online I can not beat it to save my life. Online I do great at PLO, live, I loose my patience playing one game and for some reason can't pull the trigger often enough nor read players and act on it like I can online.
My analysis of you and your play, you are better off playing limit hold'em (for now). Personally, I think that NL games up there you can make more money in. But until YOU are 100% ready to give the game your all, you should gring in the lower limit games and build your roll.
Build up a special NL bankroll that you won't care about losing. Then fire it off at these guys. This way you don't hold back from making proper decisions because the money, isn't money, it is chips.
