December 31, 2007, 3AM: Played 1 hour, Lost $11.70 at Poker Stars
$11.70 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (20th out of 46 Players)

Annoyed, get heads up and have the chip lead.

Then I trap agro boy for his stack when he decides aquiring a flush draw on the turn is worthy of his tournament life... he hits.

Now I have 2k and him 5k, I grind on to even the stacks out at 3.5k each.  As soon as I get a lead he goes bezerk on me, raising 10xs the BB pre, moving all in pre, shit, the blinds were only 25/50.

I finally trap him with 22 vs his A2, but he escapes.

I could have waited for a better spot but I was sick of his over the top raises and new I had him dominated.  What more could I ask for?

You make a very valid point with making THEM pay rather than going into a shell and trying to trap.  I will be trying this stradegy next time I am in this situation.

This has been my major weakness heads up.  Being too passive against very aggressive players.  Nate pointed this out to me as well and I am working on it.

These are the same players that give me the most trouble and I don't know if i have all the best plays to deal with them.  The one thing I try to do is just widen my raising/all-in range and try to put the pressure on him.  Even with 22 I would probably be shoving if our stacks were short enough.  I just would not attempt to slow play or trap with anything except for premiums hands.  Like I said i definetly do not have all the answers but when i get a maniac at the table i try to find ways to make them pay instead of climbing into a shell b/c i figure in the long run i will be making more money against them than good/solid players.

Thank you for calling me on my bullshit.  You are absolutely correct, if he does not have a 2 then it is a coin toss.

So yes, I do complain about a lot of "agros" and I do try and be patient to exploit them.

I'd like your advice on how to exploit them as this is obviously a weakness of mine that drives me insane and effects my play and decision making.

Trap with 22? you knew he had a duece in his hand? more than 90% of the time you will be flipping a coin at best i don't see how you knew you had him dominated.  i see you complain a lot about "agro-boys"...if they are really playing that bad then there is a way to exploit it...figure out how and adjust.  i complain about bad play as much as anyone but i also think that its important to try to adjust and outplay them because if we do that we will get the money in the long run.  good luck.
