Bad Hands
 I just saw on another post that I helped a player understand how to dictate your player in a certain low limit game. Lets get something straight here kids. If you see me play J3 suited on the button, it does not mean that you should play J3 every time in every position of a 3-6 game. Poker is all about position, pot odds, and if you believe in it, it is about timing and heaters. That day was a good day for me because I slipped in cheap with some "bad" hands for cheap, and got lucky with them. When playing in any game, you need to analyze every facet of that game. Some games you need to play tighter, some looser. Sometimes, playing a hand is a gut feeling for me, but it doesn't happen every time I get a face rag suited in any position. If you played every one of those, you would be broke pretty quick. Don't think that you can keep playing 95suited and continue winning with that hand. You were a low percentage to win and did on that particular day. Position is another key in the hand selection category. If you need to, read up on a few books, and figure out what hands are right for you in certain positions. Now, you need to calculate your chances of winning, considering the money in the pot. That is where the real fun begins. Good luck, and stack em' high!

Response to Deiyuo's response O8
 Just a response to the advice that Deiyuo provided on the O8 hand. I understand and agree with his opinion of how the hand should be played if it were a larger tourney, and it makes sense even in this sit-n-go environment. On the other hand, once these tourneys get to the 100/200 level, I believe it is imperative to press your advantages even if they are small. I had the chip lead and was trying to use it to isolate the all in. Once called by the other player, I should have backed off and just tried to eliminate him. I got wrapped up in top set that I didn't see the straight on the turn until he 3 bet, at which time I picked up the nut heart draw and decided to gamble.
Keep in mind that this ultra-aggressive style has worked well for me. I will continue to employ it, but be wary of the lurking monsters as this is the second time I have been caught pressing the action.

Hammerman's Play
 Hammerman recently posted this entry into his log and I would like to use this as an example. The actual hand history is below my comments and I suggest reading it tp understand how the hand was played.

Deiyuo's Reply, "Yes I would have".
In this hand we see a typical mistake many hi-low players make. Hammerman starts this tournement hand with around 1500 in chips at 100-200 level. He is dealt AA78 in the small blind and raises. Only one player limps and the BB is all in. A raise here will only give away his hand and only in extreme rare cases will the limper fold. I would tend to check here and see if the flop is favorable, in which case you can value bet your hand. If the flop is dangerous you can possible get your opponent to check it down with you in hopes to bust the all in player. Unless your opponent has both ends or it comes high and he has a strong hand should he bet as the side pot is small(if hammerman had just checked preflop).
On the flop of Ac8cTh he bets out, gets raised and then 3 bets. I again dont like this play. He has no low draw and although he has the best hand at the time only a board pair(6 cards, remaining ace + two 8s + three Ts = 6) allow him to safely bet into his oppenent. I would call the raise and plan on check calling down if the next card in unfavorable, which most likely it will be. Any flush, he is beat, and low and his opponent is free rolling, and any high gives a straight.
On the turn of 7h hammer bets, gets raised, 3 bets, gets 4 bet and calls. As the 7h makes a straight and low I would just check call and then again on the river. Once the river comes he bets remaing chips all in. Makes no difference at this point, he will call so he may as well bet.
Hammerman loses around 1400 in chips and is crippled with around 100 chips.
Hammerman's play here is not wrong but a very aggressive style. A conservative style, one I prefer in hi low games, could have lost only about 600( 200 on flop, a bet raise and call; 200 turn, a bet and call; and 200 river, a bet and call) leaving him around 700 in chips to continue on the tournament.
Tournements are all about survival, once chips are gone, you are gone. There is no reason to risk so many chips in this particular hand. Gaining 200 chips here is not nearly as valuable as mainting, or not losing, 200 chips.
In a cash game against a maniac I may have played my hand
similar to Hammerman.

2005 WSOP Final Table
 I finally wound up watching that final table on ESPN the other day. It was not fun to watch. Did anyone else notice that people who made good decisions did not get paid off at that final table very often? People got crippled a lot when they made the "right" decision.
I did like the final two, though. Well, not really, but it seemed to me like the winner played that second-place donkey like a fiddle when he flopped his straight. That whole exchange about "you having fun?" to goad the guy into calling (with a marginal hand) was something I think I'd have tried back when I was playing 10-50-cent poker in the lounge in the dorm room. Of course, it worked then, why wouldn't it work in the biggest-money tourney ever?
I also have a feeling that the name of the game at big tourneys is patience. The eventual winner was folding with 20-40% of his chips and a short stack over and over again. That guy had patience.

Money Management
Thought I would try out the new "just rambling" section. I envisioned myself playing in our 3-6 game this week, and focused on a few new aspects. Winn and Loss management. Jesse and I discussed ealier in the week and found it to be a very important aspect that people miss too many times. THink about the type of game your playing, and put limits both ways. If you find yourseld up quickly in your session, and you were looking to have some fun, then tough luck. Go to a movie with your winnings, spend it on something nice if you have too, go pay an extra bill. Whatever you do, don't sit in the game and blow off your stack if you reached your goal. The loss portion is the same way. IF you are ever up to $300, and you lose 150 of that 300, and your net loss was 150, then get up and go. Don't chase the money.

New Features Added!
I added two new "game types". But they aren't really game types...
One is a "Bonus". For those of you with rakeback accounts or affiliate accounts, you can add entries concerning payments on these accounts as a "Bonus" entry. It was requested by some players that they be able to track *all* their online poker activity (perhaps not making enough at the tables?).
The second is "Just Rambling". This is for people who just want to talk shop. You can talk about whatever you want here, and there will be no gain or hours or anything for reporting purposes. Just enter a subject and go. This is essentially plain-old blogging.
