Slump

My slump continues.

Haven't landed in the money since early this week and it really gets to you after awhile. I've identified problem areas and am working towards correcting them.

The biggest issue I noticed was that I would lose my patience really early for some reason and would begin playing marginal hole cards which would lead to bad calls and thus, early eliminations.

I will say that it's not entirely my fault though, these are two hands that I played earlier today:

Full Tilt = Full Rigged?

I've played my share of internet poker with good results in the long run. I've been playing some sit and go tourneys lately and I'm starting to notice some very odd "play".

I realize there are players far superior and far worse than me online, but these guys are cold calling with 94 off to make runner runner two pair to snap off aces and stuff. It doesn't take much of a player to figure out 94 off on the KQ2 rainbow flop doesn’t have much chance of dragging the pot on the river. You have no draw except runner runner two pair/trips. How are these guys consistently winning with such odd hands?

Now the 94 guy I was observing doesn't play every pot. As a matter of fact, the only pots I watched him play were ones he/she stayed to the river with and rolled over the winner. Everyone has heard the stories about hackers taking advantage on the internet poker. How far off are these "outlandish" stories?

Now internet security measures have classically been described as "reactive" since these companies are waiting to catch hackers breaking the rules and then fix the problem after the damage is done. Are there just too many of these "hackers and crackers" out there now to keep up with? Has internet poker become completely venerable to the average 14 year old fat white kid sitting in his parents' basement? Whats the story? Where are the articles talking about how far internet poker security has come in the last year?

Big Blind Raises

Got an invite for a $10 buy in tournament last night. AP qualifier for a 75K tournament. Not sure if I'm going to enter, not quite sure if my skill level is good enough for that tournament.

Question... what kind of situations would make you raise from the big blind?

Starting Over

Im going to start this poker log over.  Haven't been doing to well in the live cash games lately so I'm transitioning to online cash games and tournaments.  So far the transition has been a success and I will start posting from here on out every time I play.

Thoughts?

This game is still in play, I'm curious for a reaction or two.

Seat 1: Steveinho (1,805)
Seat 2: MAMU13 (1,805)
Seat 3: BastianBooger (1,315)
Seat 4: ZCHIPMAGNETZ (1,140)
Seat 5: cocofran18 (1,465)
Seat 6: maiore (1,470)
Steveinho posts the small blind of 20
MAMU13 posts the big blind of 40
The button is in seat #6
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to Steveinho [8h 9h]
BastianBooger folds
ZCHIPMAGNETZ calls 40
cocofran18 raises to 80
maiore folds
Steveinho calls 60
MAMU13 calls 40
ZCHIPMAGNETZ calls 40
*** FLOP *** [7s 4h 5h]
Steveinho checks

Now, let me just open by saying that I was hoping for a continuation bet here, because I planning on semi-bluffing with a big raise, and committing myself if anyone else came over the top.

Gutterball straight-draw in addition to my flush draw seemed lovely enough to get my money involved with.  Best case scenario, all fold... worst case, I'm in with a pretty damn good drawing hand.

MAMU13 has 15 seconds left to act
MAMU13 checks
ZCHIPMAGNETZ checks
cocofran18 checks
*** TURN *** [7s 4h 5h] [Tc]
Steveinho checks
MAMU13 checks
ZCHIPMAGNETZ bets 320
cocofran18 folds
Steveinho calls 320

Okay, it was a pot bet... I'm putting him on a pair of 10s.  I'm just looking for my draw to hit at this point.  It might not be a good money play, but it was too temping to lay down now that I was open-ended.

MAMU13 raises to 1,600
ZCHIPMAGNETZ calls 740, and is all in
Steveinho has 15 seconds left to act
Steveinho has requested TIME

My process is, if I hit my hand... it is definitely the best hand... if a 6 or a J hits, my straight is best... and I don't think either has a flush draw... so I'm saying to myself that, at best, I have 15 outs... at worst, a heart or a jack are gone... I'm thinking that, worst case, I'm looking at 12-13 outs.

I know the raise has to be a set, or a straight... I leaned towards straight, but didn't put set out of the equation.

So, it's still the same thing, hand hits... I win... hand misses, I lose.

I put the money in to get a huge stack early.

Steveinho: god, i'm behind, but i'm getting odds
Steveinho raises to 1,725, and is all in
MAMU13 calls 125, and is all in
Steveinho shows [8h 9h]
MAMU13 shows [3c 6d]
ZCHIPMAGNETZ shows [9c Td]
*** RIVER *** [7s 4h 5h Tc] [Kh]
Steveinho shows a flush, King high
MAMU13 shows a straight, Seven high
Steveinho wins the side pot (1,330) with a flush, King high
ZCHIPMAGNETZ shows a pair of Tens
Steveinho wins the main pot (3,500) with a flush, King high
ZCHIPMAGNETZ stands up
MAMU13 stands up

Now, I'm not saying I played this hand well... I'm not sure.  Turns out, with his 3-6 straight made, a 2-1 dog, while the retard with 10-9 is drawing dead.

Thoughts?

Call me superstitous...

Not sure that there's been any real level of concern over my lack of daily entries... I was playing a shit load in October and November, but started to run cold.

At first I started to blame it on blogging, kind of like having a shirt be unlucky... so, I did the SMART thing.  No, I didn't take a break, I just stopped blogging.

Kept playing, whittled my online account down a fair bit... so once December hit, I stopped playing online except for the random day to give myself a break and concentrate on finishing school.

Fellow player on here staked me a few times at live games, and that was the only way I was really getting money for rent and random out nights.

I finally got my bachelor's in Journalism in December and have been happily unemployed since.  I've been gradually picking up the online play more, but I'm reallllly encountering a lot of variance... both in my play and the cards.

Live I was running relatively well and getting paid off on semi-decent hands, so I kept getting staked... but the last three times I've sat down have ended pretty poorly... so, kind of on the look out for something part-time to fund the poker as well as kill time until I get a "real" job.

So... basically I stopped blogging because I blamed it for me running bad.  Smart, I know.

If you'll have me back, I'll eagerly run my post count up a ridiculous amount.

TILT

Last night was a weird night.  I went and played at the local house, having some fun with the regulars.  I was doing well, but playing drunk.  I got caught up in a big hand where I turned the flush, but wasn't big enough.  For some reason I got pissed at the guy for not giving me a break....because of the friend thing.  Then I realized that I never do that....not since the early days...I walked out pissed...kicked the door and was swearing a lot.  Who was this man? I guess I was pissed cuzz I really should not have played since I am not in a really good financial position.  Ahh another lesson learned!

Oh, and when I got home, I slipped and sprained my ankle...what a night! But now I laugh at myself!
