Best Movies?

Hey, I know this is a really broad question but I am trying to put together a must-see list of movies...I always hear about or see movies and say to myself how bad I would like to see that movie and then forget later so I want a list! And I am bored...

Give me some ideas...

First live final table

Well I made my first live final table in the Horseshoe Poker Classic $210 6-max event. I was really excited for this event as I never really get to play 6-max live against casino donks. I actually skipped my second class and got someone to cover my night shift waiting tables so I could play the event. Only about 60-70 people entered and final table paid. It plays at 3pm today CST. Some key hands...

I pick up 99 and a loose, splashy player who had been limping in and calling a lot of raises in the BB limped and called my raise. Flop 932 rainbow, he leads out 300 for like a fifth of the pot. Mystified and thinking he can't possibly be drawing live, I smooth it. Turn offsuit T, he bets 300 again. I call again and the river is a 6. He bet 900, I raised to 3k and he called and claimed he had 33 ya right lol.

Same donk later limped SB and I raised 66 in BB. He led out all in on T69 flop and I called. He rolls over A5 suited for no pair, no draw (LOL). Bye.

I pick up AA UTG and raise to 775 on 150-300 level, SB who had basically been a nit reraises 1800 more. I think for a couple minutes and shove, he agonizes before calling with AK.

At my second table a guy who seemed to play pretty bad minraised from the cutoff. I called with 66 in the SB, loose passive BB comes along. Flop 995 rainbow, we both check, preflop raiser bets out 800 into a 2700 pot. Pretty weak looking bet so I go ahead and raise it to 2500. BB folds, preflop raiser thinks for a bit before reraising...1600 more on top lol. I put him on a weak overpair or a mid pair trying to find out if I had a 9 so I thought for like 20 seconds and shoved, he basically instafolded.

Only bad hand of the night really was the very last one. Very loose, somewhat aggro guy in the SB limps 3 handed, I check 85off. Flop T85, he checks, I bet min, he minraises me wtf. I figured he had a ten so I called hoping to get him in for a raise on the turn. Turn 7 he checks, I'm a little surprised but my hand is good but vulnerable so I bet 4k, a bit under half the pot. He raises to 12k. I call hoping to check behind for a showdown on river but he shoves a blank. I tank for like 2 minutes and fold, he says he had 64 for the turned gutshot. I think I believe him because even though he showed some bluffs earlier, he never played them like that.

Well wish me good skill/luck today.

Back at School - Poker on Back-Burner

August was a great month, especially on the poker front.  I had easily my best month as far as winnings are concerned and I think I improved overall.  I certainly ran better than average and it was nice to experience for a significant amount of time.

I moved back to school during the last week of August.  I am finally in a house after spending the first three years in the dorms.  Cooking my own food and cleaning bathrooms/kitchens/etc. sucks but oh well time to grow up I guess lol.

I am also starting my second semester of student teaching in the school of education.  Realistically, "teaching" pretty much just means "observing" this semester.  I am in a middle school English class with a fun, young guy teacher.  Last semester I was in a high school class with a boring teacher and weird kids (I shouldn't say that as teacher but it was true haha).  I think I will like middle school a lot more...the kids aren't "too cool" to have fun with some of the stuff we will do and my teacher should be much more personable.

If anyone follows college football you know that UofM's football team is going to struggle a lot this year.  The first two games have been painful to watch both literally and figuratively.  I got sunburned pretty bad yesterday and the team, despite winning the second game, has looked pretty weak.  I think Rich Rod will eventually turn us into a top team again but it doesn't look like it's going to happen during my last year here.

As far as poker goes, I will try to get in a few tournaments a week.  I have Wednesday and Friday off each week but with jam-packed Tuesday's and Thursday's I will need to be spending a long time on homework on my off days.  That leaves me with the weekends but I don't know if I will want to commit the amount of time it takes to play a session of mtts very often.  Maybe that will work as proof to my mom that I am not an addicted gambler lol.  Anyways, I will get in as many as possible and continue posting.  GL everyone and keep posting hands and other stuff so I can read/comment and give my brain a poker workout from time to time.

August - Review of Goals

At the beginning of August I set some goals and with only a few days left to play and having to move back to school on the 28th, I thought I would revisit them.

1)Play my best despite beats, etc.  I think I accomplished this, but it is pretty easy to do it when you run real hot lol.  W/ my hot streak inevitably coming to an end soon I will def. keep this as a major area to focus on.

2)Read the poker book I bought.  I have read about half of it and it is easily the best poker book I have read and is very likely to have helped clean up my play slash improved my results this month.

3)Win Something.  Unfortunately, mission failed.  I took a couple seconds, a third, and a couple 4ths but wasn't able to get the win.  Took a 7-outter (I think...) on the river that would have clinched a victory but I haven't taken anything down.  Still have a few days...

4) Get a $400+ score.  Once again, didn't get this done.  However, I have had 9 $100 scores in the last year and 5 of them were this month!

5)Weight loss bet.  Ehhh...I am down to a better weight as a result of eating healthier but haven't worked out very much.  At last check I was probably way ahead of Jeff but he is hiking in California and will probably pass me by...

Overall I had a very good month...I think it was probably my best month of mtts since I started putting in a decent volume of them last August.  I have the roll to play $5 and $10 tourneys now but will probably stay a little conservative in my shot-taking.  I'm a wuss, not much else I can say b/c I should probably be taking more shots lol.

In the meantime...GG summer and lots of poker...in comes classes and student teaching kajdfal;kjdf;alkjdfal;.

August and My Goals

I worked at a sports camp all summer up to this point and have been living in a dorm at U of M.  Any job that pays you for watching TV and playing ping pong is awesome but it was tough to play any tournaments other than the ones from 12:30-2am.  I can't complain as many of my friends (and those in the real world outside of college) work schedules that restrict there time for poker even more.

However, if I had it my way I would be able to make enough playing poker that it would be my only responsibility during the summer.  That is what I will come close to living for the next three and a half weeks before school starts up again.  Because of this I have decided to lay out a few goals for the high-volume month ahead:

1) Play my best despite any bad run of cards, beats, or bubble bust outs.

2) Read the Apestyles/Rizen/PearlJammed book I bought a few weeks ago.

3) Win something.

4) Get my first $400+ score.

5) Start running again to get in shape and possibly win my weight loss bet with Jaspinal (long shot).

I am also running a $10 tournament at my house in a week that I hope to get about 20 people for.  I have run several tournaments like this in the past and they have been pretty fun and fairly profitable lol.  I will have to spend the next week calling people over and over because it is very hard to get anyone to commit to anything.  Oh well, I have fun doing it.

I look forward to what I hope will be my highest volume, and most successful month playing mtt's ever, but either way I hope I come out a better poker player and still excited about the game.

Good luck everyone and keep posting!
