March 18, 2008, 5PM: Played 2 hours, 50 minutes, Made $125.00 at Big Daddy's
$4/8 Texas Hold'em

Just hanging with the boys and playing some cards.  It was actually enjoyable to play again.  There were some people in the game that I remember from working there, and the info helped me make some decisions.  I played tight and well.  Layed down hands that I would never have had I still been dealing.  It was strange playing and noticing the difference in my play while I was at the table.  Getting away from the action has made me a better live player.

It was also interesting to hear the conversations at the table.  The lack of understanding is still amazing.  Everyone still talks like they know what the hell they are doing, but most of the time they are inaccurate at best and mostly just plain stupid.  Most of their misunderstanding comes from the fact that they play and see NLH tourneys and think the same plays/moves translate directly into a limit cash game.

Fun and relaxing.  Could have played a bit longer, but a player that I couldn't stand when I dealt moved right next to me and I could only listen to his stupidity for so long.  After not playing a hand for three rounds, I decided to take my win and be happy.  Besides the critical limit of absolute idiots at the table had been reached.  I didn't feal like getting into a crap shoot.

From the Poker Blog for hammerman

March 17, 2008, 10PM: Played 2 hours, 45 minutes, Made $195.00 at Big Daddy's
$20 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (1st out of 27 Players)

Just got in after driving 12+ hours and walked in to say hi to everyone as the tourney gets fired up. They asked if I wanted to play and I didn't really ahve anything better to do so I took it down.

Attitude is everything in these tourneys.  I didn't care if I won or went out first.  Long drive and other things made this just a time to sit and unwind.  I played relatively tight, only making moves against the few people who were able to be moved.

Made a couple calls and plays based on chip stacks and tourney payout that made a big difference. One that ended up winning the tourney for me.  With 6 players left I am in the sb, D is on my left and the loose big stack is next to him.  Loose guy raises and it is folded to me.  I am second short stack to D.  I take a big of time with my K9h, and after figuring out that I can pass the sb if I have to dump on the flop I decided to call.  It had a bit to do with the loose guy as he could have made the raise with any two face cards or any pair, but mainly it had to do with chip stacks.  D was going to be put in in the blinds and one other player would have been close before they got back to me and I would have been out.  I get lucky on the flop and hit top 2 against his AK and it holds.  From there it was smooth sailing.  Normally I would have chopped it up at any point, but the jump from 1st to second was $120, and I wasn't afraid of the loose guy at all.  It didn't take very long once we were heads up.

So after tip-out and paying the donk-juice, I ended up making a bit of money that I proceeded to drink and gamble away later that night.  Good times back in Spokane!

D and I had a bit of a conversation about posting the win.  I post only what is profit in my pocket after all tourney related expenses are taken out. ie. tip-out, % deals, and entry fee.  My thinking is that these are part of "implied" fees when playing the tourney.  If I am playing a brick and mortar tourney and I cash, I will tip out, so I consider that part of an implied entry fee.  Also all deals made are contingent on winning, thus are part of implied fees.  What do you think?

For example 1st in this tourney was $280. $20 +$5 entry fee, $40 tip out, and $20 donk-juice left me with a net win of $195.

March 18, 2008, 10PM: Played 2 hours, 30 minutes, Made $2.84 at Full Tilt
$3 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (43rd out of 473 Players)

KO tourney...I had 4 KO's.  I was very fortunate to pick up some big hands in the first 20 minutes to get a hold of some of the dead money that go nuts trying to get bounties at the beginning of this tourney.  Picked up JJ, TT, AK, AQ, and KK all in the first 20 mins, and only lost with TT (to A6).

At the first break I had a little over 6k for a 60x the BB stack.

At the second break I had a 13k with blinds about to be 200-400 and 65 people left (45 pay).  I was very patient during this hour.  After quickly growing my 6k to 7800 I 3-bet a CO raiser with AQ on the button and he shoved on me for quite a bit more.  I thought for a min but had to fold.  Then I raised from SB v the BB with KQ (i usually like to limp here).  I missed the flop and we went check, check.  The turn was another complete blank and i took a stab before folding to his re-shove.  I was down to 5000 at 150-300 at that point before winning two big pots (one was a flopped straight from the BB and one was a pot i took down on the turn with AQ on a AT83 two-suited board) to get up to 13k.

I just hit the money, 45 left, I have 10,700 at 300-600.

EP raiser to 2.5xBB, I have AK in MP with 16x BB and I shove, he calls with AA.  Very happy with how I played, can't wait to break through, hopefully this weekend.

NCAA Tourney

I run a NCAA pool each year if anyone wants to join.  It's $5 and top 10% are paid so last year top 7 got money as we had 70 people and last gets there money back.  If you want in send a bracket to [email protected] or send me an email I can can send you a bracket on Excel.  Also you can send money to 'King Raj' on FullTilt or 'Raj the King' on Pstars.  Format is 1,3,5,7,10,15 and last year we had about 70 people but I have no clue how many we would have this year.  Updates are sent after each round of games.  Please send money at the same time as your bracket if anyone is interested.  Last year's payout was 135,80,50,30,20,15,10

March 17, 2008, 7PM: Played 2 hours, Made $5.00 at Big Daddy's
$20 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (5th out of 27 Players)

I started out playing very tight. I caught pocket queens and trapped a guy with a little flop when he mae top pair and turn a flush draw.  That pretty much skated me to the final table, stealing small pots every now and then, and really not getting any big hands.

Final table chip count I was about 7th or 8th.  I grinded my way down to the bubble where it got a little tense a few times, but managed to squeeze with a little double up from Hammerman.  He endd up on fire and made a good call with 6 players left that catupulted him into taking down the tournament.  Blinds snuck up and I could not catch a hand late.

Overall I play probably B poker.  Made a couple of small mistakes in betting, and or calling/not calling.  But had fun seeing Hammerman again, and sitting next to him at the final table.

March 16, 2008, 5PM: Played 1 hour, 15 minutes, Made $10.00 at Kiss My Ace - Hangar 57
Free-Roll No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (1st out of 9 Players)

Once again, go in to have a drink, and get asked if I want to play. I decline at first, but then I get called out by a few people to jump in.  The first hand I take down a pot with a flush, then took the table by storm.  I really dont care if I win these things, but victory is still sweet.  I get headsup with the guy that just wants to leave cuzz he has to get up in the morning.  Of course, he catches everything after he says that to make it to the top two.  Then I said that we should just go all in in the dark, and I won back to back hands to win.  Got a ten dollar voucher for the hangar.

March 15, 2008, 5PM: Played 1 hour, Made $47.00 at Big Daddy's
$4/8 Texas Hold'em

This was a nacho induced session....let me explain.  I had to stay late as the supervisor, because we were firing up a second game, and we needed another body to get it fired up.  So Dave jumped in the game and I ran the room.  Then my ears here this wonderful sound..."There is a nacho bar over here for anyone!" So, I go over to Dave and say damn thats good, but I m on the clock.  Then he suggested that I jump in the game and clock off....BRILLIANT!

The session was a good one...just having fun, playing semi conservative.  Caught a flush and a few other decent hands held up.  I was up about 80 at one time.  The only hand I really lost big on was pocket rockets getting snapped by k7 going runner runner flush.  Silly boy! Good times indeed,,,,a win and free nachos.

March 9, 2008, 9PM: Played 20 minutes, Broke Even at Kiss My Ace - Hangar 57
Free-Roll No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (14th out of 18 Players)

I decided to head up and drop off some lighters to give away as prizes,, and I didnt really want to play, like usual, but Maka wanted to make me a bounty so I obliged.  Just goofing off playing every hand, then when I actually do catch a flush on the turn, I get called by second pair with a single card flush draw.  So, I rooted for him to hit on the river, and he did....lol.

Fun times mingling with the beginners...they like to pick your brain, and it is good advertising for WPS.  I think I head to some of the other locations if I get a chance and chat with the players.
