Texas Hold'em

Decided to 2-table 1cent-2cent 6handed cash tables while listening to PokerRoadRadio (highly entertaining)...was kind of messing around a little bit and was amazed at how tight you could play until making a hand then just jam 5x pot into the middle and they call with mid. pair.  I was having more fun playing this then I have been playing tourneys lately so maybe I will fire up 4-5 tables of this tomorrow instead of playing tourneys.  Maybe I can make a few bucks and more importantly enjoy it again.

$22 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (1st out of 10 Players)

I hate FT.  I think it is a Vista problem, but I never know if my HH will be saved.  The history was saved for the private tourney yesterday, but not for this gem today.  And here I took notes about hands I wanted to discuss :(.

Oh well, I built a big stack and pushed everyone around for a while.  Then they got aggro so I backed off, but not for long.  Then things start going my way.  I take down a pot on the river with a one-card flush (4h), the guy did not even call.  Then I play aggro with 78 and hit 2pr on the flop.  And it gets better from there.

A guy tries to steal all in preflop with 59s? He runs into my A5s in SB.  I'm thinking it's bad to try that when big stack is one of the blinds?

Once four handed, things started REALLY going my way.  I knocked out 4th, 3rd, and 2nd on suckouts.  JAs rivered an Ace to beat some other pair.  I beat the next guy all in pre with 74 vs JK, and finally, to show just how well-aligned the stars are, I beat the last guy all in pre with 5J vs AJ.

I hate winning as much as I hate losing, cuz when I win it feels like dumb-ass luck.

$22 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (4th out of 10 Players)

Bubble boy.  Played only like four hands.  Got a good stack and then had an average stack.  Picked up 27o in BB and raised a SB who was limping.  He calls and flop is 236.  He bets into me and I go over the top all in.  He thinks and calls with 7Ko.  Turn is 7, river is 3 to pair the board :(.  We both make two pair and his King holds up.  I guess that's what happens in donkey-vs-donkey.  I ran the numbers, and was 85% on the flop and "only" 80% on the turn.  Can't really feel sorry for myself on that one getting aggro with 27o, but maybe I should, since I knew the guy was weak the whole way (playing the player, not my cards).

I shoved preflop next hand with TQd cuz I'm pissed and get beat by A5s.

$2 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (60th out of 190 Players)

This might just be a day full of poker.  Hopefully if I don't take a real bad beat or two I will keep playing good and play all day.  If I take a beat I may have to quick due to frustration though.

So, tourney number 1: 6 handed MTT.  Had AQ and AK on the first two hands and lost both so I was a little short right off the bat.  Little later I raised Q9s from the CO.  Flop came 876 and the SB who was the only guy to call led for the size of the pot (about 200).  I shoved for 960...he called with 74 and I hit a 9 to get to 2k early on.

Just lost a big race: QQ v AK preflop, coulda had a huge stack.  I have 2250 now at 50-100 so still able to make a run.

Squeezed with J8s, called by 77, lost.

$3.30 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (3rd out of 146 Players)

Wow, a decent finish ;)

Grinded down to 3 handed... was picking on the player on my left from the SB.. just limping and outplaying him post.

Then on my button I'd auto muck and let the weak player(SB) be at a disadvantage vs he BB big stack.  Then while in the BB the SB big stack would give me a pass most of the time and about 1/5 times raise.

We had a nice system going here to bleed the guy on my right down.. which is what was happening.  Until he starting limping on the button and raising from the BB.. he hit his "oh shit" stack size and woke up.

He doubles up off the big stack with AA and now becomes very aggressive.  Blinds are high and I limp on the button with KJs.. he raises from the SB with AK and we see 244 with two spades fall, he bets half my stack and I commit to the hand.  Even if 50/50 I don't mind.  I can't fold now once the pot has 30K in it from pre action.

1 LAPT Step 3

*playing one of them at a time yeilds best results*
*Turbos suck ass and turns into a crap shoot but I have perfected them :)

Done with step 1's for now.. will play down my step 2's and will only return to step 1's if I start placing low in 2's.  Will spend a max of 1k on the step system for now.

STEP 2's
I'm finding step twos more difficult.. they still are turbos but people don't bust out as quickly.  So I can't fold down to 3-5 players and then "turn it on".  They also are more aggressive.  Also, to stay on track with money invested I will need 9 step 3's and it is looking like that may not happen :(

April 17, 2008, 11PM: Played 3 hours, Made $3.18 at PokerStars
$2 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (104th out of 1790 Players)

I have 17,500 at 600-1200 blinds.  Folds to me in the CO with 99.  I raised to 2999 (This was the standard raise at the table and people were actually probably folding a lot more than they should to it).  Button calls, and BB calls, and the flop comes 763, two hearts.  BB just shoves for 22k into the 7000 pot.  I think for about 30 seconds and call.  Button folds and the BB rolls over A5 hearts.

He was actually a 54/46 favorite, but obviously I am getting 1.5:1 so its still correct to call (call 14,500 to win 21,500)...brick on the turn but rivered a heart.

No worries, I think I played well and I won the couple times I was all in as a 70/30 favorite so that always helps.

$22 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (491st out of 1314 Players)

This type of play makes me angry...

Blinds 125/250 with a 25 ante..

My stack is 3675 and donks stack is 4885.

Donk limps +1 UTG with 66 and the SB limps..

I'm in the BB with KK and make a standard raise to 1250.. 1K more with a pot of 950 in it.. that is fair.

The agro donk shoves in for his stack now with 66! Wonderful up until he makes a str8 and busts me.

I don't know how else to play this hand and would never change it.

Just frustrated that every tournament ends this same exact way and the player that makes mistake after mistake gets my chips.

My number one rule in NLH tournaments is do not go all in. How can you go broke if you have chips and play smart?

The thing is they guys "force" me to do so in horrible EV situations on their part and "get lucky".

Will it ever end?
