$125 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (1st out of 55 Players)

most of tournament was pretty much uneventfull.  i was tired and not taking too many risk and it seemed like when i was it was not working.  donwn to 2 tables and starting to blind out i get 10 10 all in and call by A 8 and i double up to chip average.  then i get kk in the big blind under the gun raises 5 times the blind all fold i just call. i check dark and he puts in about 20K pot size bet. i shove for about 30K he calls with top pair. i win.  i slowly blind off some more and just waiting for shove spots. none found until we get to final table in big blind i get 10 10 the under gun raises to 5K blinds are 1 and 2 i had announced before the hand that i was pot committed even though i wasnt i had about 20 K but i shove and he calls he turns over 8s no changes and i knock i double up.  i get some decent hands and raise and continue no showdown wins i accumulate some chips.  then i get KK from under the gun and i the cutoff raised half his stack about 20K blinds 1500 and 3 i call check dark again (cuz it worked so well before) he shoves all low flop i call he has JJ io win and become 2nd in chips.  then comes the lucky hand for me of the night (only get lucky when you play bad lol) I raise blinds (2 and 4) to 16 with Ad and Jd i get called by 5 one of those a solid player who has made some great calls earlier with bottom pair and was playing really well and was also chip leader.  and 3 others call flop comes 9d 4d 5c he bets small like 20K all fold i call. turn a 2h he bets 35K i think about how stupid this call will be and how many chips are in the pot and i call it only leaves me about 15K left but i thought if i missed maybe i could hyave a miracle run and still cash. river 8d i hit the nuts he and i go all in and he folds (claimed to have top pair but he had a lot of chips left so either a great fold by him or he had a straight draw that missed) that gave me huge chip lead.  i catch some hands knock people out and grow my lead. i tried to chop so i would get like 1500 and others would get like 8 each but nobody bought it. so we played it down to 3 and ofcourse i tried to chop again and 1 agreed and 1 wanted to play it out i was ok with playing out considering my huge chip lead and 3rd was 880 so no biggie. and of course i bust the guy that didn't want to chop.  then we chopped 2 handed 1800 each. happy with back to back wins.

$125 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (1st out of 251 Players)

only missed a few minutes of the first round.  1st time not getting there late became table chip leader 1st hand with a bluff and never looked back.  in the 1st hour of play stole a lot of pots and then got paid off when i had good hands.  went all in on a top pair flush draw on the flop 4 ways preflop was raised not by me but by man across. he flop 23 for 2 pair i flopped 9 with a Q kicker but 4 flush i had him covered i lose and still have about half starting chips and still early and with new reentries i catch my flush.  then i get in a pot with the other big stack...within 1st hour a tripple up this guy had about same.  i flop a set of qs he turns a set of ks straight draws out there so thankfully we dont get it all in, after that hand i move to second at the table.  then last hand before they break the table at the 3rd level.  i get A J and raise new entry calls and the other big stack calls .  flop comes 5 8 J check i bet half pot and then a shove from the new entry the checker calls i call turn is an ace (there is a flush draw on the flop) he checks again i make it 4000 pot is about 30000 he calls river a blank he checks i bet 5000 he folds he missed his flush other lady turns 2 pair and i have bigger 2 pair i become tourney chip leader.  next table i slow down a lot the blinds are getting higher.  i still steal here and again and continue to win most showdowns.  i build my stack and stay chip leader.  i get into a 7 way pot. i flop flush draw i check and 2 people go all in its 4 to 1 for me to call and i have the chips i call and miss.  that pot was about 90K so he became chip leader but not by much i build back up and change tables about 80 of us left now.  nothing major happens i steal i few pots and get a few good hands and knock a few out i build good table lead.  at the next break aboout 60 left i am 2nd in chips after the break i gain a bunch of chips of normal play and chip leader dwendles.  i become about double any one else at touney with about 40 left i change to table that had chip leader.  i get 66 i call 5 way action i flop comes 56j i bet 20000 blinds are 500,8 and 1600 original chip leader (someone i know to be pretty solid and plays alot reraises me 30000 more.  all fold i reraise 90K more i have a lot more chips than he does at this point i shouldnt have reraised and i couild have stacked him, he flods and shows the J.  after that hand i start bluffing at bad times and having to call short stacks and end up giving my huge lead back. still at top of the list but not chip leader.  table change again down to 30 players.  i tighten up for the most part only stealing with position and then folding to reraises i am able to build my chips up slowly as people are eliminated.  finally in the money top 26 so people start shoving i kinda just by my time and play good hands aiming at the final table where the pay jumps.  then player to my left a pretty solid player has A 4 i have k 6 we are both blinds i try to steal he calls i try on the flop when an ace hits he calls i try on turn i have a straight draw or at least that is all i see but he seemed week he calls then river is a 4th diamond.  i look and realize i have the K i bet 50K about 1/3 pot. he insta shoves i dont put him on a bluff and think for like 2 min or more. then realized the A of diamond was on the board and i had the nuts easy call for about 120K more. makes me chip leader of tourney again as we head to final table.  up and down here but no real fluxuation.  every big pot i lose and i win a few small ones.  we get down to 5 players and after about 20 min we chop and i get 2nd place chop i was 2nd in chips and chop was close to 2nd place money.  there was one shorter stack and one a little larger and the 3 of us were close i had a few more than the other 2.

$3 No-Limit Texas Hold'em

45d in sb. 6 players call a $15 raise. flop Ad3d7c. i have a double gutshot and a straight flush draw. i check. the preflop raiser bets $45. it folds to me. i think a minute and then shove for $160 on top. this guy had been pretty weak up to this point and hadnt shown down any good hands and i'd only shown the nuts, so i thought he would lay down most hands including some aces and any other pairs smaller than an ace. and if he called i had a very strong draw to the winner. he thinks for a long time, longer than i thought he would and finally calls with ATs. i go brick brick for the loss. i dont think i played the hand poorly. but i could have waited for a spot where i had a made hand. not really any need to gamble so early on in the session.

$75 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (21st out of 58 Players)

2nd hand i get a phone call that i needed to go to work.  i miss a couple hands then sit back down under the gun with Q9 suited i bet standard 3 times bb with 600 the cut-off reraises to 1600 i call. flop Q67 rainbow i check he bets 1400 i call turns a Q I check he pushes all in for about 3K more.  i quick call i thought i would of had to go to work or i would have thought about it then called he showed KK no K on river and i double up to about 1500 chips then nothing i practically blind out.  i go down to about 5000 when i get AQ on button i shove blinds are 1 300 600.  i get called by bb and by under the gun.  no bets by either one i flop 2 pair.  bb had AQ as well and utg had 77 so i go up to about 8000. then all fold to me in ths sb i shove with A5 and bb folds.  next time im small blind same thing all fold a shove with A7 bb wakes up with AK and off i go.

April 2, 2011, 8PM: Played 8 hours, 30 minutes at Rama
$2 No-Limit Texas Hold'em

I decided to hit the casino right after work, because there was a semi-major MMA event being held that night, and I thought it might bring out a lot of fishies that I wanted to take advantage of.

There was a very long wait for a table, so while I waited, I blew $40 on the slot machine, then decided to play some Mississippi Stud. I won't bore you with the details of that game, but I caught lucky a few times, and by the time my name was called to play real poker, I was up over $500(this result is not factored into amount won/lost).

I started off poorly, perhaps wasting some of my luck on the table games, when I lost ~$120 when my AK ran into AQ on an AQ4 flop.

The next 6-7 hours were totally brutal. I would pick up almost no hands, and when I decided to get frisky, I seemed to always miss the flop, and get bet out of the pot. In-fact, I didn't rake my first pot until hour 3 or so...with a bluff.

The funny thing about the first bit of this session....when I was folding drek(lots of 42o, j3o type stuff), it NEVER hit. quite often I will muck a hand and it ends up flopping huge, and I beat myself up over it. So this was keeping me disciplined, knowing I would just have lost more had I called bets/raises and had to give up on the flop.

Eventually, I started getting hands. And by getting hands, I don't mean premium stuff. I mean 67o in a multi-limped pot, and I flop trips, or a straight draw, etc. I never got paid off too huge, probably because my image was so tight after getting nothing playable for the few hours.

My final memorable hand came when I was on the btn. In a 4 way limped pot, I pick up 89o, and limp with it. 7 players see this flop of J102 rainbow. Its checked around to me, and with just the button left to act(He is a very solid player, known for making some great soul reads) I check, hoping to get a free chance to hit my straight. I'm disappointed however, when he bets out $18. it's folded around to me, so I decide to take an aggressive line with this one, raising to $55. He thinks for only a few seconds, and re-pops me to $155. I think for a bit, play with my chips, and think some more. I pull the extra $100 from my stack, and start measuring it. He then makes a comment, asking if I am feeling like getting frisky on this hand.(twice I bluffed him out of pots in the last 3 orbits and both times they got shown...not by me) For whatever reason, this makes my mind up for me, and I call and say "absolutely". The turn is my second favorite card, an offsuit Q making no chance for a flush. He shoves, and I beat him into the pot(I'd already decided I wasn't calling $100 on the flop to hit my hand and fold). He only shows a J, and leaves in a huff when my hand holds up. This is the main hand that turned my session from a losing one into a winning one. over a $500 pot, pushed in my direction.

I won a few more hands here and there, bluffing a few times, getting some pretty decent holdings others.

I have come to a realization. I am not a good player with a short stack. I limp way too often, and make too many decisions based on bet size, rather than odds. I feel I am damn good with a big stack(especially if its all profit). I will have to work on this, and hopefully get better.(or I can just keep topping up to the max when I lose over 30% of my stack.)

$125 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (35th out of 48 Players)

played like shit.  got there an hour late then relized once i dropped the car off i had no phone.  should have been a sign.  i go in and keep thinking if i am getting a call for work and how i need my phone.  started off playing well stealing the pots early and i quickly become the "table bad guy" but i run into JJ when i have 8 10 i raise bb has jj and calls then bets only 400 into a pot of 4000 so i make it 1600 he calls then he checks turn i check. turn makes a pair of 4s on the board with a 7 and a 3 rivers another 7 he checks i bet 1600 leaing me with 1200 in front of me he calls.  I dont know why i try to outplay people who dont even know what the blinds are.  oh well i double that up next hand then the very next hand i get 99 in the bb and the button makes it 12.  i shove and he insta calls me with ks i dont hit and its back to the valet..at least now i have my phone.

$125 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (16th out of 255 Players)

from the start i didnt like my seat position always getting bumped around too crowded.  i made a few bluffs at bad times early getting caught was forced to make a move before the 1st break got caught again but rivered a straight.  built my chips up from that point didnt get much for cards whole touney but kept chips in front of me. tounrney down to about 60 players i have 4000 under the gun blinds ar 500 1500 and 3000 i put it all in 3500 plus the ante already with A 10 get a reraise from button with A Q bb folds I hit a 10 on the river. next hand i flop a straight and a make a few bluffs stealing the blinds and i become chip leader at the table.  I got trapped in a couple of hands where i had a good hand and small stacks were shoving a folded a couple and called a couple not winning any of them, but made the money at 26 players left.  then the all in fest begain with the short stacks tables went down to 2 made the second tear of payouts from 185 to 295 then i stated getting some cards 10 10 double up against A 4 then JJ double up again 88 then made the 3rd round of 340 after a few 340s get knocked out 16 left 1 spot from payout going to 460 i get KK on the button the big stack under the gun raises 4 times the blind all fold to me i just call. flop 6 8 10 he bets same bet i just call. turn a 7 he bets same bet small to the pot i quick call (should have shoved all in here but he would have called anyways) river a 9 putting a straight on board 6-10 he bets about 3/5 the pot i think for a few minutes and make a bad call. i had him on JJ after the flop and i should have thrown it away but that pot would have gave me huge chip lead and control of the tournament which 1st was over $6K so that had had me short again about 11 blinds next hand under the gun raises about half my stack fold fold i push with 88 all fold he calls with A 10 turns a straight i turn a flush draw but dont hit and leave with just 340. the KK vs JJ really hurt i win that i feel good about at least 1K bonus but if i pushed he would have called me at anytime in that hand so i guess i lost the min. just shouldnt have called the river i still would of had 100K and avg stack if i folded.  oh well live and learn tipped 25 but should have tipped like 15 i was thinking i made more for some reason

$665 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (7th out of 49 Players)

Although I placed I did lose money as this was an unlimited rebuy event.

Besides grinding like a maniac and not picking up hands.

Made a crazy play with 73 from SB vs BB.  Me in SB been battling with BB all day.  Make raise, he flat.  Flop J98, I check he check, turn 2, I bet medium he snap call.  River 3 making me a pair.  I check he overbets my whole stack minus a whole 700.  I go into tank and read him as flush and straight draw.  After thinking longer I am 100% he had straight and flush draw.  I call, I was right but I didn't account for him having a Jack of diamonds for top pair.  He has JdQd, flopped top pair, flush draw and gutter ball.  I'm just not sure how he could check flop and only call turn.  He put me on a pair and said, I could only beat pocket Ten's and other pair was a set or overpair.

Ground my stack back up from 700 to make final :)
