April 29, 2007, 11PM: Played 4 hours, Made $40.00 at Whitmyre Hall
$5 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (1st out of 12 Players)
Friendly game... a few good players, a few not-so good players... only made one move that I was really pissed off about in this one.
Didn't have to get overly creative... just stole a few pots when necessary... hardest thing was making a couple tough calls, one pretty solid lay down and making the few monsters I hit extract maximum money.
Succeeded... I prefer live games way over online ones.
Most interesting hand of the night:
We're down 3 handed, and I've been chip leader majority of the day... I just, however, doubled someone up and things are starting to even out.
I had been taking a lot of pots preflop, mostly with strong starting hands, but, on the button, I decided to jack it up x3 the blind with 8 - 4 off suit.
Now, most every other time I raised, no one called... this time, however, I had two callers.
Flop came out 8h - 8d - 5h.
Okay, good flop... 1st and 2nd position check... I throw in a raise of about 60% the pot.
Call - Call.
Okay, so now I'm worried about one pair and at one flush draw... or each of them have both.
Turn: 4h
Jackpot... Now I have a boat and the flush draw is on the board... first position makes a pretty strong bet... second position calls... I start planning a re-raise when, I realize, that if I were to re-raise, double the bet, I'd be all in... so, I figure the time is right and I push.
First position fights off the urge to call and folds, with a very-very short stack... second position is committed and calls with the Ace-High on Ah-3h...
First position showed his pocket Queens that he folded.
That's poker right there... worst hand raises pre-flop... a monster and a pretty solid hand call, and the rags become the riches.
It was academic after that... my chip lead was around 30-1 at least.
