January 30, 2006, 12PM: Played 1 hour, 30 minutes, Lost $23.00 at Big Daddy's
$20 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (10th out of 30 Players)

Went to work to say happy b-day to boss man.  Decided to play even though I wasn't in the mood.  Got cipped up early and then coasted to final table.  I tried to look for blind stealing chances today, and only took advantage of one.  There was a lot of raising pre-flop and I could not push much.  I might have played an Ace rag wrong by not calling when two people had called before an all in moved.  It was not a lot of chips, maybe 1/4 of stack.  I new the guy behind him would call so I laid it down.  The Donk roled over j3 suited and the All-in roled over 10k.  I had a little bit more respect in a tournament for the J3 guy, that is why I laid it down.  But, then again, he had MM, a bad player watching him from the rail, and was being silly.  Still, I guess I made the right playing, considering if I had to do it again.  Just got short chipped, and did not make a move late to try to accumulate chips.  Blinds ate me up!

January 29, 2006, 12AM: Played 2 hours, 45 minutes, Made $282.00 at Big Daddy's
$4/8 Texas Hold'em

I found that happy medium. I just had enough alcohol to play the way I wanted to play.  The game was borderline ram-and-jam, but not out of control.  I did two things very well tonight.  The first being the ability to KYO (know your opponent) and respond accordingly.  The other, utilizing table presence and use it to my advantage.  I have never been able to switch gears 4 times in one session and recreate my table presence.  I started out as tight and nut player.  Then, I roled over a few bad hands and bluffs, then got some call when I had great hands.  This happened several times.  Wow, what a great feeling when that works out perfect.  I made several calculated bluffs by gaining information from players during the pot, then betting the hand accordingly.  I got beat up a couple of times, and I beat up a few pots with mediocre hands, which worked out perfect in the grand scheme of things.  I set my limits accordingly, able to lose X amount, and when I got over a certain hump, I was ready to quit at X amount.  One of my better sessions I have had as of late.  And yes, the 23 came through for me in honor of Jesse.  You know, the old story about raising the whole way and nobody saw it coming.  I look forward to my next session next week!

January 27, 2006, 3PM: Played 3 hours, Made $120.00 at BD's (OTC)
$4/8 Texas Hold'em

Ok, Throw the rule book out the door for this game!

I started out five handed and play fairly cautious.  Had many chances to bust the game up by taking down small pots, but laid them down to keep the game going.  I did bluff several times to slightly short stacks that I knew could not call unless they had monsters.

After the game started to fill up, I saw the company that I was in and for some reason the green light flashed.  I started pumping the game really hard! Playing and raising with marginal starting hands, some winning, some losing.  I decided that if I was going to play in a six handed game, that I would make it my game and dictate the pace of play.  Boy did I ever.  The chips started flying, and the pots started to grow.  I didn't necessarily use this to my advantage, calling down several bad hands, and trying to bluff into a hot man that couldn't miss.  In the end, it paid off as the game got more full, and I tightened up.  I caught a few "legit" hands and was on my way to a decent win.  My chips were in and out, but the pots were big, my dealer was making great money, and at the end of the day everyone was happy.

I read and commented on another persons post about short handed play, and I really didn't try to learn much from this session.  But, my approach today was dangerous and reckless in hindsight, but I suppose it can pay off.  I would not recommend this style to a beginner player who doesn't know when to say when.  I still would have fealt the same way about this session even if I lost.  Timing was good, and game filled up at the right time for me to get out with a win.

January 22, 2006, 7PM: Played 40 minutes, Made $274.00 at BAY 101
$8/16 Texas Hold'em

Talk about two different worlds.  These guys(and gals) were playing tilt poker.  Ram and jam style, like the good ole days.  I got caught up in two pots, not flopping the best hand, but knowing what my outs were to win.  I got up quick and Jess and I decided to bail with a good short days work.

It is amazing to me, how you go to different parts of the country and find that there is a total lack of respect for money on every level.  So all you 3-6 and 4-8 and 2-10 players out there, don't think that it is the low limits that make people play poorly.  It happens at every level, watching a 100-200 game breifly where the chips were flying, and in th 8-16 game that I participated at.  There is money to be had down here, and they just want to pay your bills.  If there was ever a time where I think I could consistantly make a living playing cards, it would be now and here in the Bay area.

On another side note, the Bay 101 was a wonderful experience.  I had a bad taste in my mouth about the first couple of casinos that we visited.  This was not because of rude players either(everyone is fairly polite, and know how to take a beat, almost everyone).  The staff at the Bay was exceptional, there dealers were friendly, managed the game well, and everyone was very hospitable.  I would say that if you are in the San Jose area, check this place out(free advertisement).

I don't think we will be playing tomorrow, so all in all, it was a good trip, poker wise, and I learned a few new things about people, and how they respect there money.

January 22, 2006, 6PM: Played 45 minutes, Lost $77.00 at BAY 101
$6/12 Texas Hold'em

This was a feeder game for me, waiting to play 8-16.  So I knew I would not be there too long.  Won a hand early, then saw a few flops with me raising before the flop.  The three times I did that, I got on a flush or straight draw, not ever flopping a pair.  I tested the field and then slowed down.  The game was relatively good, people had a good grasp for the game, and no one was throwing chips around.  I would not have been a tough game to beat, but I knew my time was short.  No quams overall.

January 22, 2006, 2AM: Played 2 hours, 50 minutes, Made $235.00 at Cache Creek
$4 No-Limit Texas Hold'em

This is a 200max buyin with 2-4 blinds.  This game was just what I was looking for.  A couple respectable players and the rest fairly new.  I did not play a hand for an hour, just so I could get used to this game.  Jesse was at the table, and the first hand he played, put on a bluff and shocked the whole table. I am sure he will post about it in his log(deiyou).  Enough about Jesse though.

I fealt so comfortable playing in this game, because it was a basic tournament mode for me.  I know that I can make consistent money over time in this game, but I live in Washington, oh well.  Adapting to different games, and playing elsewhere is good experience.

I set up a pretty tight table presence, and utilized it by making good bet with nothing several times over the course of the night.  No hand really stood out, just played solid poker, much like I would play a tournament.  There was a dispute between Jesse and I about pocket aces that I got and If I played it right, but that might be something we can talk about in a forum setting someday on this site, to see what the public thinks about it.  Other than that, I had a hard time dealing with the staff, bad service, goofy poker rules(another good topic for a forum), and very slooooooow dealers, that werent pooling there tips.  I don't stiff dealers very often, but one I had no choice with, because of his lack of game control and inability to be friendly.(another good forum topic, you get the point)

The game is definitly beatable at any level, and I look forward to see how I do at the Bay 101 tonight.

January 22, 2006, 1AM: Played 45 minutes, Made $28.00 at Cache Creek
$5 No-Limit Texas Hold'em

This was a 2-5 blinds, max 500 dollar buy in.  To put it lightly, these guys were a bunch of chumps who thought they were all pros.  It was ANNOYING! The game was slow, probably 20 hands an hour tops.  I once again had a short session while waiting for the 200 max NL game.  I did not play a hand (all 10 of them) in 45 minutes.  Then, Mr. tough guy to my right, decided to but heads with me, in the blinds.  He cold calls and I check pre.  He checks, I bet and he check raises.  He checks on the turn and I move 150 all in.  He looks at me and say, "I should have raise before the flop with these bullets." The board was Q952, no suits.  I say, "dude, you don't have aces, you probably have ace high, because you would call me with aces with a flop like that, BUT YOUR NOT"! He rambles a few cuss words and shows me ONE ace, and lays it down.  OH, did I tell you that I roled over 6-10 off suit? God I love putting people on tilt.  My name was called for the 200nl, and I walked away with a smile and f-bombs dropping everywhere.  "Good luck everyone", while staring him down as I walk away from the table.

January 21, 2006, 11PM: Played 15 minutes, Lost $39.00 at Cache Creek
$8/16 Texas Hold'em

This was a 4-8 full kill, but the only pots I was in was 8-16.  Short session waiting for NL games. This game was wild! I got up 80 bucks within 10 minutes.  Then I lost a monster hand.  Short story long, I flop trips, turn a full house, and loose the pot to a better full house. 79 against 7 10.  Its was a 700$ pot.  That would have started off the night well.  Got called up to 500 Nl, and I cashed out of that one.  I would have destroyed this game, if I stayed in it, but I came to Cali to play some No Limit.

January 20, 2006, 11AM: Played 3 hours, 15 minutes, Lost $297.00 at Lucky Chances
$6/12 Texas Hold'em

Donkey's over here, donkey's over there.  Money is not of the same importance in Cali.  And for some domb reason, Jesse and I filled that mold too.  We just had fun and played stupid like the old days.  Thought i would get the bad play out of the way early.  Can't wait to play NL at the Bay 101!

January 18, 2006, 8PM: Played 3 hours, Lost $49.00 at Big Daddy's
$4/8 Texas Hold'em

This is not as bad as it looks.  This was one of those "try to keep a game going" times.  My close friend was dealing, and I knew that it had been slow as of late.  I was up 100+ at one time.  But, my main goal was to keep the game going for the company and co-workers.  I do admit that I went on semi-tilt at one time, playing more hands, but never getting out of control like I had in the past.  The game was good, having a good time with old friends and co-workers, and booked a loss as the game broke before I got even.  I was down at the bar when it was a full table, 20 minutes later I come back up and the game fell apart. I was ready to play well and get even, but oh well.  I am now preparing myself for some bigger games as I go to Cali to visit Jesse.  I feel that I am ready to play well and take control to books some decent wins in the next five days.
